I've bought a vehicle out of State before and here's
what you need to do. First and foremost have the
vehicle inspected by a professional inspection
company. I've used lemonsquad.com with excellent
results! The inspection costs about $150 and is well
worth it. You know exactly what you're buying! Once
you decide to buy the vehicle and a purchase price
is agreed upon your downpayment will hold the
vehicle for a certain amount of time. You and the
Dealer will agree on that time period. You can't drive
the vehicle off the lot until the vehicle is insured and
paid for in full. All sales documents must be signed
by you and then the vehicle is yours. You can either
pay cash or finance the vehicle but it must be paid
for in full before you take possession of it. Then you
can have anyone you like go pick up the vehicle,
with a valid driver's license and your approval to the
Dealer. Selling your current vehicle is your concern if
you don't trade it in at the Dealer when you buy the
new vehicle. You can then send the proceeds from
the sale of that vehicle to the finance company who
will then apply that money to the balance owed on
the new vehicle. Having the vehicle shipped to you
might be a better option. Especially if it's very far
away from you. If you figure gas, tolls, food, and
hotel costs incurred by driving the vehicle home vs
having it shipped. I've used uship.com for shipping
with good results. You can get a free shipping quote
from them. Or another automotive shipping
company. I bought my 94 Fleetwood in North
Carolina and I live in New Jersey. After having the
vehicle inspected I sent a certified check to the
Dealer. The following weekend my Sister and I drove
down to get it, and I drove the vehicle home. It was
cheaper than having the vehicle shipped. In your
situation having the vehicle shipped might be
cheaper. You'll have to do the math. Hope that
helps! Jim
