can i put a 1990 accord engine in a 1987 accord?

my dad has a 1987 honda accord and he was wandering if a 1990 honda accord engine would work in it?

Dear superfly66-- My personal guru, Tom Fahy of the Newton Street Garage in Brighton, Ma., tells me that you can interchange engines very freely on most cars. Things to look for are size of the engine compartment and alignment of the motor mounts. It may take some customized wiring, but he says you should be able to do it. Good luck from Bovan.
