engine light keeps coming on in my 1993 cutlass Cierra & then it cuts off but so does the car. what can be wrong?

Hmmm, I didn't this problem with my car but I know for a fact that the engine is pretty well shot after 95,000 miles (I don't know this for sure but I have read and been told by many people) has something to do with the manifold. I had a cracked cylinder, and decided not to swap motors but got a new vehicle.
