Subaru - Outback 3.6 (Which years to avoid?)

Asked by Jason Nov 26, 2017 at 10:07 AM about the Subaru Outback

Question type: General

I'm interested in purchasing an Outback 3.6r.
We've all heard about oil consumption issues on most models, including the 3.6r engine.
Which years should I focus on?

Also, I understand that using a thicker dino oil i.e. 10w-40 might help reduce consumption issues that may arise in the 3.6r engine?

thanks,
Jason

I believe it is the 2010 and up 6 cylinder engines that can be oil burners. Look up Consumer Reports Thirsty Thirty.
