2000 model, manual. Bunny hopping and engine cutting out randomly. Now bad smell coming from the engine area.

What is the bad smell? So this is an FB model (like the US Aspire?) and you're in AU? Any chance the check engine light is on? I'm going to try to get some more Festiva help coming your way.
