car not able to start, but battery in good condition, dashboard display shows always Drive mode,evern shifting gear to neutral and parking mode?

My car is not starting, Drive mode is not able to change to neutral, or parking, but gear is physicaly shifting to all modes. but dashboard display shows Drive mode , why?
model of car is 2002 GLS 2 door pajero, silver., Battery is new one.?
please advice , what will be the reason, how much money i need to repair????

It's a little part in the automatic gear selector that broke. Call around to a few shop, tell them that, take it to one who sounds like they know what you're talking about. $150.
