99 5.3L

Asked by LS_Powered_CJ7 Feb 11, 2017 at 04:57 PM about the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Question type: General

I purchased a donor motor from what was told to
be a 99 silverado 1500. I bought the motor,
harness, ECU and all. I wasn't able to look at the
VIN on the truck. I am putting this on a 83 CJ7. I
took what I thought was the 16 digit VIN off the
ECU to find out some specifics on the motor, but
when I put in a VIN decoder it says I need 17 digits.
Is there any where I can find info using the ECU
numbers?

The only way to get the vin is to read it rim the pcm with a scan tool. But it has to be hooked up. Why do you need the vin from the donor truck?

Just have been looking for some replacement parts such as gaskets and other things online and when I plug in 99 Chevy Silverado1500 5.3L it asks for options and it makes no sense but a lot of times whether I use base model, LS or LT model it changes if the part is compatible. Not that it should for gaskets and other motor parts but it says it does. I don't want to purchase the wrong parts due to some have limited return policies like EBay and by the time I finally get everything put together and found out it wasn't correct I would be wasting my money
