Truck won't start, key stuck

Asked by Cassie Jan 10, 2019 at 11:23 AM about the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The truck won't start, key won't turn and is stuck.
Could this be a battery thing or something else?

Probably a stuck ignition switch. Could be because of the steering wheel lock, if the steering wheel is locked and won’t move at all, try rocking it back and forth as you try to start. It may release. Also you can put a little graphite or WD-40 or some other light lubricant in the lock. After years of use locks get jammed up. I bought a used truck a year or so ago and after problems like this it turned out to be a worn key, found a newer version that came with the truck and now I have no problems.

Cassie, classic symptoms of ignition switch failure. To remove the key, look up underneath the steering column, there will either be a hole there or an outline for a hole, some weren't drilled out for whatever reason. Stick something thin up there to release the key. Replace your ignition switch. Not the part the key goes into, it's a little black box underneath steering column. Pretty common failure, I keep a spare one in mine.
