Car won't start, key is stuck

Asked by bgut12 Mar 07, 2019 at 12:15 PM about the 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My fiance's car has died a lot this winter. We got a completely new battery
about a month ago and we've still had issues. When we try to start the car, no
lights turn on, car doesn't even attempt to turnover, and the key gets stuck in
the ignition. I've heard it may possibly be the alternator, but wanted to see what
others thought. Thanks for the help.

Using a meter, battery should be around 12V, engine off. Engine on, with headlights and AC on, battery should read around 14V. If you have 12V engine off....Bad battery connection can cause this for sure, make double sure they're tight. Check ground G201 on transmission hump. Passenger side, remove 1 screw in carpet, pull back, will be right there. Remove the screw, and make sure connection is bright. I removed paint down to to bare metal there and cleaned fasteners. Very important ground location. You should really have a parasitic draw test done to see what's draining your battery.
