bought 1965 wagoneer 230 3.8L 4x4, is engine worth rebuilding?

this vehicle is a 1965 and 67000 miles on it. Sat for many years, we got it to turn over
recently but it has a loud knocking like the top end isn't getting oil.....is this engine worth
rebuilding? it not what would a good bolt up option be?

try lubricating each cylinder and let sit,turn over a couple of times without trying to start it (if it starts right away-shut it down) pull rocker covers and free up ,inspect, baby it a bit to see if it'll smooth out. 1965 - were we still running leaded gas back then? (Google to find an answer)

thank you....those were the steps we took prior to trying to get it to turn over so it's good to know we are on the right track. going to pull the cover as you said to take a look....in your opinion would fixing this engine be an option to consider? I am just learning about it's history and it isn't all positive. Regardless of the low mileage do you think it's a good option if rebuilt right?
I would give my right n__ for the chance to tear that puppy down to the crank and put her back together. I am assumimg you are going to do it yourself - YES-YES-YES!
