i have a 2006 5 speed automatic how do u check the transmission fluid

drive it normally get it warm , park it , wait 5 minutes then start it up and check the level , most have you check it warm in park and there may be instructions on the dip stick saying different but thats how I do it , then you smell it , if it smells burnt change it , if it's nice and pink and smells like a microwave cheeseburger then it's O.K.
