1997 town & country trans leaking oil from inside bellhousing

When I start the motor and let 2 minutes, oil will start leaking out from the inside the bell housing. But soon as I shift the trans into gear it stops leaking oil until I put it back in park and turn off the van. Then it starts to leak again after I turn it back off. Butt just a little bit. What could the problem be?

Again, I agree with tenspeed......can you tell if it is indeed motor oil? Or is it red (automatic transmission fluid) or very heavy, like sae90 manual gear oil?
OK then there is a main seal around the shaft that comes out of the transmission, could be that. Most likely.
tranny cooler lines leaking?
Could be Jim, but I don't know that the cooler lines would be run through the bellhousing?
typically they dont leak when driving but when you stop there is pressure in the lines......it sprays everywhere. Theyre a pretty common Chrysler vans issue
