98 park avenue battery light on and no power steering

Was driving down the road when battery light came on and the power steering went out. it
has power steering fluid and battery is less than a year old. any ideas on what it could be?

Serpentine belt loose..or gone? The icon on the dash looks like a battery but is really the alternator warning, not battery

yea ... prolly should have noticed the belt was gone when i was checking the fluid.... hahaha Thanks!!!!

Yep, that would do it.. don't feel bad..years ago my truck wouldn't start so I open hood..look around and kick the tire out if frustration. Didn't notice somebody stole my battery. Until I called buddy for help...gave him the best laugh of his life
