1998 BUICK CENTURY CLICKS BUT WONY START NOW IT HUMS

I was driving on the highway then my check
engine light flashes I pull over to turn off the
car then it doesn't start.  It only clicked now
its kind of clicking and humming but I'm not
sure it only has 76,000 miles some guys are
trying to buy it for 300 are they just trying to
scam me and tell me it's my engine and
alternator that's messed up?  Please help

How old is the battery ? if it's over 5 years it's a suspect , you need a multi tester to see if it has even 12 volts , Are the headlights nice and bright ? Are the terminals tight ?what about a jump start ? I'd say read the code
