1980 corvette. new starter. car starts but wont re start after if has been running awhile. After it cools down it starts.

new starter.  car starts but wont restart after it has been running for awhile.  
When it cools down (about an hour later) it starts again.

My guess is that the starter coils are getting hot.if it is possible i would put a heat shield around starter.
