Pontiac Grand Am 1999 wont turn over

Asked by justapeenwithadream May 11, 2016 at 02:29 PM about the 1999 Pontiac Grand Am

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car is not starting, it's making noise like it wants to start, the engine is moving but it just refuses to start all the way. We've changed the ignition coils, the spark plugs, the battery, the alternater, and the serpentine belt. We've been told it can't be the starter since it's trying, and it could be the starter silenoid, but probably not. We know it's getting fuel because we can smell it in there. Please help this car is our only transport other than my parents (who cant make it to us much) and we live 40 miles from any towns.

Is this a 4cyl. or 6cyl.? When you try to start does it crank? do you hear the electric fuel pump?

Mine is doing the same and I've replaced the starter 3 times it keeps burning out it's an electrical problem and my mechanic doesn't want to deal with it. I've replaced the battery, power steering pump pulley.. it's frustrating. It's not the altanater.. the start is getting burnt out sometimes it turns over and spits like it wants to start before it starts smoking BC the starter is fried..
