I have a 97 mercury tracer and the geat shift wont come out of park how do i get it to release and move.

there should be a little plastic piece that you can pop out. it should be right around the shifter. if you pop off the cover and take something small like a pen or screwdriver and depress the piece in the cavity it will come out of park. you will have to do that everytime after you shift to park until you get it fixed.

that small piece across from the P is what I was referring to.
