How does a new car get sold at CarMax with 2400 miles on it?

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Car I'm looking at on Autotrader shows the current owner as first owner.
Shows shipped to dealer March 2019.  Then current owner bought from
CarMax in Aug 2019 with 2400 miles on it.  His title shows previous owner as
CarMax.  Current owner is listed as "first owner" in history.  But my
understanding is CarMax only sells used cars.

So how does a used car with 2400 miles on it not show having any previous
owners before the guy that bought it from CarMax?  My best guess is the
Toyota dealer used it as a demo or loaner, and then sold to CarMax who
then sold the current owner.  Since the Toyota dealer and CarMax are both
dealers, they would not show up in the history as owner.  But wondering if
that is right or anyone has any better idea.  Thanks

Covid stopped things from happening at a normal pace just shortly after the vehicle was sold into the main stream.

Sounds like it was a demonstrator or maybe a courtesy vehicle. When a new vehicle hits the 1,000 mile mark it becomes used and the warranty coverage begins running. So, you are correct, the vehicle is used and should be priced accordingly. Hope that helps! Jim
