Will pushing the start button and depessing the brake pedal at the same time on a 2010 Lincoln MKS cause the car not to start.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have had several instance when the car would not start and I would then also notice that the brake pedal would feel tight. After waiting about an hour I would try to start the car again. The brake pedal would feel looser and the car would then start fine. I am going to try making sure to first press the brake pedal down completely before pressing the start buttom and see if that prevents the problem from occuring.

Yes brake pedal then starter button may make a difference.

Has anyone else experienced the same problem with their Lincoln MKS not starting? So far so good with it continuing to start by pressing and holding the brake pedal down and then hitting the start buttom. Anyone know why on some occassions the timing of hitting the start buttom causes the brake pedal to feel stiffer and the car will not start?

Ford Dealer says problem was not with the brake pedal switch but with a faulty starter motor. Picking it up tonight and will see if that corrects the problem.

I am having the same problem, the brake pedal switch has been replaced -- still have problem. Did the starter motor fix it?

I have had the sme problem. I am going to ave the brake switch relaced and see if it corrects the problem. Should cost me less than $100 to find out. If it does not work then I will look at the starter motor. Larry McHale

I’m having the same problem only in the am, since it’s been chilly here in N. Florida during the early morning hours, with my 2013 MKS.

Had this problem with my 2013 MKS and a new starter, battery and testes on the starter, batter and alternator didn't show any improvement. Had it not want to start at a part store and found I was not getting power to the starter signal wire, after going through the owner's manual for the fuse/relay descriptions found all that involved starting or ignition. After replacing two relays with no luck came to the Starter Motor Relay replaced it started right up. Having no problem sense. Check your relays!
