Deciding between 2 used Subaru OB at Carmax

Asked by Guru9DWX2Z Oct 30, 2020 at 02:37 PM about the 2010 Subaru Outback

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Comparing a 2010 OB Limited (loaded) with 122K miles, $13,000 with light
undercarriage rust vs. a 2011 Premium (has heated seats and sunroof) with no
undercarriage rust with 62K for $16,000   Better deal?  Things to consider or
have checked out?

60 thousand fewer miles and a year newer makes the choice a no brainer.

Both are susceptible to CVT failure based upon age, and both are wildly (+$3-4k!) overpriced! Age is FAR more important than mileage with Subarus. Are these Canadian dollars?

Used car prices are insane these days. You get much better value for your money with a new car if you can afford one.

I generally agree, but there ARE erudite loopholes. For example, I continue to source underpriced 2016-2019 OBs and Legacys from lease companies that are happy to have made money on highway-driving penalties levied to corporate reps. As well, my STi suspension mods only fit pre-2020 era Subies, so that's a powerful incentive for those who can't stand the wobbly, roly-poly, under-steering new breed. But 2019 is the end of the line, I suspect....

If I ever move to the bean town area I will look you and your car lot up!
