97 jimmy lights wont turn off

Could be the switch on the dash that you can turn them on/off with when the doors are closed.
It is the dimmer switch for the dash lights. If you rotate the wheel to the left, that turns on the inside lights, and makes the dash lights as bright as possible. Rotate the dial to the right, it turns of the inside lights, and keep going it dims the dash lights down. All the way to the left and you should feel a bump, like going over a cam bump or something.
