Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Last year I put a new engine into my truck - this morning when I went to align it the guy tells/shows me a crack in the frame which just is not worth fixing. So now I want to get another truck that I can put my engine into. Is the engine only compatible with chevy trucks 80-89 and/or can I also look at GMCs of those same years? Its an 8cylinder 5.7L

it is directly plug and play with any 86-95 truck. Your engine should be TBI and will work with any other small block TBI set up. There may be a couple sensors to work out but for the most part its the same. You could carbuerate it and put it into anything older as well

Got it welded - im not sure if I should keep it though - any thoughts on frames that have been welded more than once?

So I found an 85 chevy c20 with no engine or tranny - would this be a good shell for my parts?

yes, but the truck is set up for a carb. With no pump in the tank and no real ecu like yours. You could run an inline pump and wire the ecu and run your harness. Or convert to a carb and you will still have to wire in a fuel pump because your cam doesnt have the lobe for the mechanical fuel pump. Your truck is 2wd or 4x4? Going into an 85 wont be a simple plug and play, but the motor and tranny will bolt in. You may need to find a 700r4 crossmember as alot of these truck had the shorter th350

That sounds like a lot more trouble then it's worth! What do you think about a frame repair on the truck ive got? I really love it and don't want to have to get another - just want to know all of my options. I appreciate all of your input.

looks like the control arm mount, you should be able to weld that. I would cut down on the rock crawling to be on the safe side

You can put in a 85 chevy and use all the wires and the gas tank and ECM . or fix the old frame
