I have a 2001 ford mustang that I recently hit a rock that put a hole in the oil pan. It did not start leaking until the next day and when I went to drive it my motor turned off a mile after I started. I was wondering if there was a safety feature that would have shut my motor off to prevent it from seizing. When I try to start it, it just clicks. There was no loud noises before it shut off. It just did my battery was not dead. Should I invest in an oil pan or would there be significant engine damage?

Probably went into limp mode and shut off the engine to avoid big damage. I would get a new oil pan and gasket, check for any internal damage once the pan is removed , hopefully there is none, and put new oil/filter. Start the engine and listen for any knocking or abnormal sound coming from the engine, then take it for a test drive. Good luck!

I checked the ground where it was parked when I got back and there was no oil. It just started leaking when I left that morning and it hadn't been leaking for long before my motor shut off. Later that day I came back to see what the problem was and I poured oil in because by that time it had completely leaked out and as soon as i poured some in it came out the pan underneath.
