In 2000, the Town & Country minivan entered the final year of third generation production. Chrysler would unveil a fully redesigned model, built from a new platform, for the 2001 model year. Minor changes for 2000 included the discontinuation of the short wheelbase models, new exterior colors, and a greater styling distinction between the LX and the more upscale LXi.
The SX is trim is gone this year, but the LX, LXi and Limited Styles remain. All three trims are available with front wheel drive or all wheel drive. The FWD LX and LXi models are powered by a 3.3 liter V-6, which generates 158 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. Minivans equipped with this power plant will tow 2000 pounds, and drivers can expect 17/24 mpg fuel economy. All AWD models and the Limited FWD house a 3.8 liter V-6, making 180 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. Changes to towing capacity and fuel economy are minimal. Both engines are paired with a four-speed automatic transmission.
Consumers often cite the spacious interior, convenience of sliding doors on both sides, and the availability of all wheel drive as the Town & Country's best features. Many have also reported that the minivan has smooth ride, especially on the highway, and AWD models handle well in inclement weather.
Unfortunately, build quality and reliability issues take something away from the Town & Country ownership experience. Common complaints include window leaks, electric system failures, transmission problems, and rapid degradation of interior materials.

I like the van for its versatility. I bought ours used with 52K miles. Now have 109k. Have had number of things that needed replacing. But nothing out of the ordinary. Brakes hold up well. Compared with General Motor brake lines that rust out Chrysler is much better.
One annoyance was the serpentine belt jumping the pulleys. I was able to fix myself with a Danco pulley kit. Basically a side shield that kept serpentine belt in place. Changing spark plugs and wires is a chore for back half of engine, had to have mechanic finish for me.
Spare tire crank needs to be serviced yearly or you will have problem getting spare down.
Mice like the insulation near firewall and chew it than pee all over. Of course then it smells in the cab. Peppermint oil seems to slow them down and make van smell better. Must apply few times a year.
As a family van it has been good for long trip to Florida each year. Family of 5 so we remove one center seat and have ample room for our stuff. It rides comfortably and handles good.Feb 04, 2013

Very good performance and handling for a luxury mini-van. Getting to the point where we need to worry about rust issues in the strut towers and rear fender area. Normal transmission issues caused us to replace the trans a couple of years ago. Great fuel economy from the 3.8 liter V6, and power to use the factory towing package.Sep 05, 2010

Chrysler was under the gun with competition from Honda. Performance was OK, cost of ownership was not bad, but rust under the paint after about 6 years? Japanese cars have shown Detroit that no longer needs to be acceptable. The electronics may have done by a high school physics class. The windows go up and down at will. Sep 21, 2009

good car. fun to drive. good acceleration, good brakes. handles pretty well for a minivan. occasional repairs neeeded. good looking as far as vans go. good gas mileage even with a large load. does not need much maintenance at all.Aug 05, 2009

2000 chrysler town and country power steering leak
My dad was giving me his 2000 Chrysler Town and Country but he told me that it had a leak and that you would have to fill it every 30 minutes with power fluid but when I started driving it I noticed that it was leaking really fast at the bottom there is also signs that it's splashing on the belt and the pulleys. We also noticed that as soon as you put the fluid in it leaks right out as soon as its put in we cant see ot from the fitting so its one of two things. Could it be the hose or power steering pump? Please help if you can.
