The 2028 Jaguar Type 01 is a new electric four-door GT that marks the brand’s return to the U.S. market for the first time since it stopped building the F-Pace SUV at the end of 2025. It also marks a shift upmarket for Jaguar, with prices well into six figures.

What’s New for the 2028 Jaguar Type 01
The Jaguar Type 01 is an all-new model. It’s based on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) platform, which Jaguar says is the stiffest body structure the brand has ever used. It’s made of 73% aluminum, and the car has a perfect 50/50 weight balance. The Type 01 also reboots Jaguar as a strictly electric brand. Jaguar says it’s the most advanced car it has ever built, citing applications for 360 patents. The Type 01 is set on air suspension with adaptive dampers, while rear-wheel steering is standard.
Design
The Type 01 is all about its design, for better or for worse. We think it looks good, in the mold of 1930s luxury cruisers. It’s marked by a long hood, a low-slung fastback roof without a rear window, a short front overhang offset by a long rear overhang, and 23‑inch wheels that ground it quite well; 21-inch wheels will also be offered. The nose is blocky, with the suggestion of a rectangular grille in its center, an actual air intake down low, slim LED headlights, and horizontal light strips top and bottom. Along the sides, the doors are frameless and the car has a slab-sided look, giving the impression it was carved out of a metal ingot. The rear end takes on a simple rectangular shape with full-width horizontal lines that incorporate thin taillights. It’s all designed to cut through the air efficiently, with active grille shutters, a three-stage rear spoiler, and a sculpted underbody contributing to a slippery 0.23 drag coefficient.
Powertrain
The Type 01 is the most powerful Jaguar ever. It has two rear motors and one front motor for a combined 1,015 horsepower and 1,007 pound-feet of torque. Jaguar quotes a 0–60 mph time of 3.1 seconds. A battery with 118 kWh of usable energy unlocks a range that Jaguar quotes at 320 miles when driving on the highway at 75 mph. That’s not the way the EPA tests cars, so the final official range will likely be closer to Jaguar’s expected 400-plus miles. The Type 01 has an 850‑volt architecture that allows it to charge quickly. Jaguar says it can add 200 miles of range in 13 minutes or go from 10–80% in 22 minutes on a 350-kW DC fast charger. An onboard 19.2-kW charger also lets it charge more quickly than the vast majority of EVs on a Level 2 240-volt home outlet. It also offers a one-pedal driving mode for increased brake regeneration.
Interior
The Type 01 is a four-seater with each position defined by a central spine that runs down the middle of the cabin. The front seats have 12-way power adjustments, heating, ventilation, and massagers. The rear seats are also heated and ventilated, and they fold down in a 50/50 split. Brass trim is found throughout the cabin. Buyers can get synthetic or real leather upholstery. Jaguar outfits the Type 01 with a standard panoramic sunroof that can be darkened or lightened electrochromatically. With its hatchback body style, the Type 01 has more cargo space than rival luxury sedans. It has 15.9 cubic feet of space in the cargo area and that expands to 35 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.
Technology
The Type 01 employs a different take on the standard screen layout. It has a 24‑inch OLED screen behind the steering wheel that acts as both a digital instrument cluster and, on its right side, a touchscreen for infotainment functions. A second portrait-oriented 7-inch touchscreen at the base of the center console allows the driver and front passenger to control climate and other functions. The car also has a natural-language voice assistant, as well as Connected Navigation Pro, which optimizes drive routes for the best charging options and includes real-time traffic information. Also standard are wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, two wireless device chargers, and a built‑in 5G Wi‑Fi hotspot. The Meridian sound system uses a panoramic soundbar at the base of the windshield that incorporates 13 speakers. There are 25 additional speakers, including speakers in the front headrests.
Safety
Jaguar hasn’t yet outlined the full list of safety features for the Type 01, but said it will have a surround-view camera system. However, buyers can expect a full complement of driver-assistance features, likely including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-keep assist, parking sensors, and probably more. The Type 01 does not have a traditional rearview mirror. Instead, it has a ClearSight Rear View display—a small screen at the center of the soundbar at the base of the windshield that relays the view from a rearview camera.

Pricing and Release Date
As a testament to the brand’s move upmarket, the Type 01 will start at $130,500 plus an undisclosed destination fee. Jaguar will begin taking orders in early 2027, with deliveries due to begin midway through the year. There is no word on whether Jaguar will offer additional models with more or less power, but the brand will offer only 60 units globally of the Chromatic Moments collection variant. This version will come with unique badging, laser-etched signatures, and other bespoke touches, along with hand-applied French Ultramarine or London Red paint.
