With the introduction of the 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback, the automaker is bringing its first electric vehicle to the US in more than a decade. It is a part of the “Momentum 2030” business plan, where Mitsubishi plans to introduce one new or completely refreshed model every year through 2030. Sharing a platform with the Nissan LEAF, this new EV will sit in the affordable subcompact electric crossover segment. This is a small but mighty segment, and primary competitors include the LEAF and the Chevrolet Bolt EV.

What’s New for the 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback
This is a completely new vehicle for Mitsubishi, and though we don’t have many details on the 2027 Eclipse Sportback at the time of this writing, we can make some educated guesses based on its Nissan LEAF sibling. Expect things like North American Charging Standard (NACS) compatibility, more than 300 miles of range, a minimalist interior with large digital displays, and available level-up features such as Google Built-In, premium audio, and 360-degree camera views.
Design
The design of the 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback is an aerodynamic wedge, with the side profile looking quite similar to the LEAF's. The front has distinctive Mitsubishi badging and LED daytime running lights (DRLs), with the front and rear fasciae echoing Mitsubishi’s global lineup. We can expect standard 18-inch wheels, with 19-inch wheels being available.
Powertrain
Since the 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback will be based on the Nissan LEAF, we can expect that it will get the same 75-kWh battery pack paired with a 214-horsepower electric motor. It will also get a NACS charging port, which means it will be compatible with the modern Tesla charging network. It will be front-wheel-drive (FWD) only with an all-electric range topping 300 miles in some trims.

Interior
The interior of the 2027 Eclipse Sportback will likely mirror that of the LEAF, with a wide-open feeling as well as large digital displays. It will have space for five passengers. Standard seating surfaces will likely be cloth, with leatherette seats being available. We expect a panoramic roof to be available on the top trim, and we also expect available features such as heated front and rear seats, power seats, and memory driver’s seat settings. We also expect at least 20 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row.
Technology
Similar to the Nissan LEAF, the 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback will likely get standard LED headlights, Plug & Charge capability, vehicle-to-load capability, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a four-speaker audio system, and two front USB-C ports to be standard. We also expect the digital monoscreen atop the dash in upper trims that houses both a 14.3-inch digital cluster and a 14.3-inch infotainment screen. Available features will likely include a premium Yamaha audio system, wireless phone charging, multi-color ambient lighting, a motion-activated liftgate, Google built-in, rear USB-C charge ports, and a head-up display.
