What’s New for the 2027 Lexus TZ
The all-new Lexus TZ is built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, shared across both brands’ lineups, underpinning everything from the Prius hybrid to the Sienna minivan, as well as several Lexus vehicles. The TZ evolved from the Lexus Driving Lounge concept, which emphasizes interior comfort.
Design
The TZ, like all EVs, leans into an aerodynamic design, with what Lexus calls a spindle body—applying the wavy lines associated with the most recent generation’s front end across the exterior. The TZ is designed for a low center of gravity, which offers up a sweet combination of a welcoming cabin and balanced driving dynamics. Up front, the TZ has signature L-shaped lighting and an illuminated L-shaped emblem in the grille. The wheels, in 20- and 22-inch designs, look great in the photos but could compromise this vehicle’s stated objectives of comfort and efficiency.
Powertrain
The Lexus TZ will be offered with a choice of two lithium-ion battery packs, 76.96-kWh and 95.82-kWh, with a range of up to 300 miles, though Lexus has not yet disclosed more detailed powertrain specifications. We know that the TZ features adaptive all-wheel-drive (AWD) with instant torque distribution based on driving conditions, which tends to deliver balanced and engaging driving dynamics in smaller vehicles. A dynamic rear-wheel steering system coordinates with the front wheels for enhanced stability and agility. A suspension system with MacPherson front struts and multi-link rear suspension will help ease the potential roughness of the standard 20-inch and optional 22-inch wheels, which run on low-rolling-resistance tires. Other features include Normal, Sport, Eco, Range, and Rear Comfort driving modes, regenerative braking, and a North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging port.
Interior
The cabin has an open layout, with six spacious seats across three rows. The vibe is airy and lounge-like, with a huge panoramic sunroof to let in plenty of light. The front passenger seat and second-row captain’s chairs are available with ventilation and power-adjustable ottomans, while the second- and third-row seats come with one-touch power-folding controls for easy access and cargo storage. The cabin is available in three neutral color palettes and features renewable materials, such as bamboo blended with resin and plant-based synthetic suede.
Technology
The TZ features a widescreen infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The home screen features customizable widgets, while the driver information display supports full-screen navigation. A built-in recording system can save exterior camera footage for extra safety and security, and a 21-speaker Mark Levinson audio system is on the options menu.
