What’s New for the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500
The GMC Sierra 1500 has been fully redesigned for the 2027 model year. Though GMC hasn't yet released full details, it shared some information about the new exterior and interior designs, particularly as they relate to the new AT4X off-road and Denali Ultimate top-tier trim levels. The Sierra 1500 will be offered with new-generation small-block V8 engines and some class-exclusive features, such as the ability to use GMC’s Super Cruise hands-free system while towing.
Design
As is typical for a pickup truck, a full redesign generally involves a concerted effort to out-macho the competition, and from what GMC has shared so far, the new Sierra 1500 succeeds admirably. The new front and rear lighting is offered with animations that signal the owner’s arrival and departure, and optional quad exhaust outlets are a visual indicator of performance. The AT4X off-road trim stands out in part thanks to a two-inch lift and exclusive hood and front fascia.
Powertrain
GMC has mentioned four engines for the 2027 Sierra 1500 lineup, though exact specs, such as horsepower, torque, and fuel economy figures, are not yet available. The General Motors 5.7- and 6.6-liter small-block V8 engines, also shared with the Chevrolet lineup, are redesigned and enter their sixth generation with upgrades in fuel injection, cooling, and other performance factors. The Sierra 1500 will also be offered with a Duramax diesel engine and an upgraded TurboMax engine. All four engines will feature a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Interior
The GMC Sierra 1500 is generally known for its high-quality interior, which helps to justify its higher price compared to the Chevrolet Silverado. GMC hasn’t yet confirmed cab styles, passenger space measurements, or other seating details, but it’s fair to expect they’ll largely carry over from the current generation, and the manufacturer claims best-in-class head and legroom in the front row of the crew cab model. Other options include a panoramic sunroof, real wood trim, a new MultiPro center console with hidden USB ports that expands into a work surface, and hidden storage consoles behind the available center screen and the passenger screen. The new AT4X will feature a sport steering wheel, exclusive upholstery color palettes, and premium upholstery finishes such as quilting and embroidery.
Technology
The redesigned Sierra 1500 emphasizes the new Denali Ultimate’s best-in-class tech, with more details to come regarding the full lineup’s infotainment features. The Denali Ultimate’s screens measure more than 60 inches combined, including but not limited to a 12.2‑inch configurable digital instrument display, a 16.3‑inch diagonal central infotainment display, and an 11.5‑inch diagonal front passenger infotainment display that cannot be seen by the driver. GMC says the latter two screens are said to offer best-in-class dimensions, along with class-exclusive articulation that shifts for hidden storage. The Denali Ultimate also features a Bose stereo system with 16 speakers, including the segment’s only headrest-mounted speakers.
