Like every other vehicle to wear the Hummer badge, the 2027 Hummer EV SUV is big, brash, and loaded with features that make it a viable off-roader. The reborn Hummer, now in fully electric guise, debuted in 2022, and the 2027 model year marks 25 years since the Hummer H2’s launch at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2002.

What’s New for the 2027 GMC Hummer EV SUV
GMC marks Hummer’s 25-year anniversary (though the brand was dormant for more than a decade during that span) with an all-new Hummer EV Icon edition. Like the original H2, the Icon is painted in a searing yellow, and blacked-out exterior elements match its jet-black interior. A serialized plaque will be included with every 2027 Hummer EV Icon model. In addition to the Icon, GMC added a North American Charging Standard (NACS) plug to the Hummer EV lineup for 2027. Initially used by Tesla, this plug has pretty much taken over as the standard charging adapter in the United States.
Design
The Hummer EV SUV is an extremely large vehicle. Blocky shapes dominate its exterior, with bulging fenders that cover massive wheels, a horizontal light bar up front that mimics a slatted grille, and an almost chopped-top look that keeps the hulking SUV from being too tall to fit into too many garages (shoppers should check the size of their parking areas before buying). The Hummer EV SUV is unique in offering an Infinity Roof with removable panels, and the individual panels can be stored in the front trunk.
Powertrain
GMC offers both two- and three-motor powertrain options in the Hummer EV SUV. Output varies by model, with the base EV 2X offering between 570 and 635 horsepower and the EV 3X upping the output to 830 hp. Range also varies from a low of 294 miles (tri-motor with the Extreme Off-Road Package) to a high of 319 miles (two-motor without the Extreme Off-Road Package). With Watts to Freedom mode engaged, the Hummer EV SUV can accelerate from 0-60 mph in as little as 3.5 seconds, and maximum towing capacity is rated at 7,500 pounds.
Interior
Despite its massive size, the Hummer EV SUV is a two-row SUV with no third row available. Fortunately, there’s plenty of room for adults in both the front two seats and on the second-row bench. Similar to the exterior, the interior is fashioned from blocky shapes, with long horizontal lines emphasizing the big machine’s girth. There’s 82 cubic feet of storage space available with the second row folded flat.
Technology
A pair of screens dominates the dashboard. Directly in front of the driver is a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and in the center is a 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system that runs Google built-in software. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported. Off-roaders will appreciate useful technologies such as Crab Walk, which steers all four wheels in one direction, King Crab mode which rotates the rear wheels faster than the front ones in order to make tight turns, and Extract Mode that raises the Hummer EV SUV six inches for maximum ground clearance.
