Today’s Hummer is very different from the Hummers of yesteryear. Still boxy, still highly capable on dirt, mud, and rocks, but now powered by electricity instead of gasoline. And the reborn Hummer EV is also much more powerful than before, with enough gumption to run from 0–60 mph in 2.8 seconds.

What’s New for the 2027 GMC Hummer EV Pickup
Changes for the 2027 model year are limited to a North American Charging Standard (NACS) socket compatible with Tesla-style chargers and a new Icon trim level that pairs the old Hummer H2’s well-known yellow paint with a black exterior trim and a Jet Black interior. Each of the limited-edition Hummer EV Icon | 25 models will feature its own serial number on the instrument panel along with unique infotainment graphics. Color options include Dark Ridge, Azurite Blue, Dark Ember, and Deep Void Matte in addition to ICON yellow. Two new 22-inch wheel options will also debut for 2027.
Design
There’s no mistaking the big, brash Hummer EV Pickup or SUV for anything else on the road. With its upright dimensions, bulky fenders and sides, and squared-off details, the EV Pickup looks like it’s chiseled out of a massive slab of granite. The Hummer EV Pickup has a relatively small five-foot truck bed, but its innovative MultiPro Tailgate extends the bed’s capabilities. Plus, the front trunk offers an additional 11 cubic feet of storage space, which comes in handy for storing the removable roof panels.
Powertrain
GMC offers two powertrain options in the 2027 Hummer EV Pickup. A two-motor powertrain comes standard and sends either 570 or 635 horsepower to all four wheels. A tri-motor upgrade is available with between 830 and 1,160 hp, and GMC claims the Carbon Fiber Edition can scoot to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds. GMC offers two different battery packs in the Hummer EV Pickup, one with 20 modules and another with 24. Depending on the model, range varies between 300 miles (EV 2X models with the Extreme Off-Road Package) to 363 miles (EV 3X models with the 24-Module Battery Pack upgrade and without the Extreme Off-Road Package). Properly equipped, the Hummer EV Pickup with the two-motor powertrain can tow up to 12,100 pounds. Models with the three-motor powertrain can tow between 7,500 and 8,500 pounds.
Interior
The Hummer EV Pickup’s blocky design continues inside, with lots of straight lines and chunky bits including the HVAC vents, door pulls, and grab handles. GMC offers multiple interior color options, from muted earth tones to bright red and black. The new-for-2027 Icon edition gets a unique Jet Black interior. Similarly to the Jeep Gladiator, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup has what the automaker calls an Infinity Roof with removable roof panels.
Technology
A 12.3-inch digital screen serves as the gauge cluster in all Hummer EV Pickup models, and a second 13.4-inch touchscreen handles infotainment duties. Unlike some EVs from General Motors, the Hummer EV Pickup supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A Bose 14-speaker surround sound audio system with CenterPoint is standard. GMC packs the Hummer EV Pickup with useful off-roading technology. CrabWalk is a four-wheel steering system that lets the hulking truck move left or right through obstacles, and King Crab turns the rear wheels twice as fast as the front wheels to create a tighter turning radius. Terrain Mode offers up to 11.9 inches of ground clearance, which is good. Extract Mode pumps the air suspension up to allow 16 inches of clearance. The Hummer EV Pickup features Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) bidirectional capabilities, which means, with the right equipment, the truck’s big battery pack can be used to power a home in the event of an outage.
