What’s New for the 2027 Ford F-450 Super Duty
For 2027, the F-450 Super Duty gets a new FX4 Off-Road package to give it extra overlanding capability. It comes with a limited-slip rear axle, hill descent control, off-road-tuned shocks, Rock Crawl mode, and skid plates for the transfer case and fuel tank. A Super Duty Proud To Honor appearance package decorates the exterior with dark exterior accents, black wheels, and red, white, and blue graphics.
Design
The F-450 Super Duty comes only with the regular cab or Crew Cab and an eight-foot bed, or with a chassis cab body without a bed. All F-450s are duallies with four rear wheels. The F-450 is a massive beast that looks like the semi tractor it almost is. It’s tall, wide, and blunt, with a full-width grille rendered in black or chrome and bracketed by a C-shaped light signature. Tall vents sit behind the front wheels, providing a hint at how much work the engine must do. Retractable bed steps in front of the rear wheels help owners get into its tall bed, as do bumper steps at each rear corner and an integrated bed step that pulls out of the tailgate, tilts down, and comes with a stand-up handle to help people climb in. Like other Ford F-Series pickups, the cab’s side windows dip for a better view of the tall side mirrors. It rides on 19.5-inch polished aluminum wheels with bright hub covers. The bed can be outfitted with a mat, spray-in or drop-in bedliners, hard or soft tonneau covers, and LED lighting.
Powertrain
The F-450 Super Duty comes only with a 6.7-liter turbodiesel V8 that makes 500 horsepower and a whopping 1,200 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission sends the power to the rear wheels as standard and optionally to all four via four-wheel drive with low-range gearing. The F-450 can tow up to 25,000 pounds on a conventional trailer hitch, 35,000 pounds with a fifth wheel, and 40,000 pounds with a gooseneck. While the F-450 is not an off-roader as such, it could wind up on tricky terrain on the job site. For that purpose, Ford offers the FX4 Off-Road package detailed above as well as all-terrain tires.
Interior
The F-450 seats two or three as a regular cab and five or six as a Crew Cab. The base version is sparsely appointed, with a front bench seat upholstered in vinyl, vinyl flooring, manual seat adjustments, a urethane steering wheel, and manual climate controls. Moving up the trim ladder brings cloth, then synthetic leather, then real leather upholstery. Also available on higher trims are power-adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and power-adjustable pedals.
Technology
The F-450 is fitted with a standard 4.2-inch digital information center, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a four-speaker audio system for the regular cab and a six-speaker system for the Crew Cab. Higher trims have a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12-inch touchscreen, navigation, a wireless phone charger, satellite radio, upfitter switches, a head-up display, and eight-speaker or 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio systems. Ford Pro Telematics and Ford Data Services are standard. These are connected systems that aid fleets with vehicle GPS tracking, driver monitoring, geofencing, dashcams, and vehicle health tracking, among other features. The standard Ford Connectivity package has a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot for a year, and a seven-year version is available. The available Ford Pro Power Onboard acts as a generator to power 120-volt outlets in the bed.
