The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is all-new for 2027, entering its fifth generation. This is the first full redesign since 2019. It gets new tech, a ground-up redesign, and two new V8 engines. The Silverado 1500 sits in the full-size truck segment, competing against the Ford F-150, GMC Sierra 1500, Ram 1500, and Toyota Tundra. The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will have seven trims: Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, Silverado, Trail Boss, High Country, and ZR2.

What’s New for the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Since this is a new generation for the Silverado 1500, it’s safe to say most things on this full-size truck will be new. In addition to the completely redesigned interior and exterior, the biggest news is that the next-gen Silverado also gets a pair of next-gen V8 engines. Outside of that, you’ll see a new standard digital instrument cluster and larger infotainment screen, an available passenger screen, a new available Multi-Flex center console, and SuperCruise with trailering capability. Perhaps the better question is: What’s not new? Carry-over features include the base four-cylinder engine, the diesel engine, the Multi-Flex tailgate, and the T1 body-on-frame truck platform.
Design
For 2027, the Silverado designers went bold. It has a stronger grille appearance, new LED taillights and headlights, more pronounced wheel openings, and a standard dual exhaust on Custom and above trims. It will be offered with regular-, double-, and crew-cab configurations as well as short-, standard-, and long-bed options. At the time of this writing, we don’t have details on appearance packages, but each trim will have unique differentiation. For example, you’ll see red recovery hooks and 35-inch MT tires on the ZR2, while the High Country will have more polished detailing, an exclusive Tritan Satine grille, and 22-inch machine-faced wheels. Wheel sizes and faces will also vary based on trim, ranging from 18 to 20 to 22 inches.
Powertrain
The 2027 Silverado 1500 will continue to have four powertrain options. The base 310-horsepower 2.7-liter inline-four and 305-hp inline-six turbo diesel are carryovers from the previous generation. The V8s are replaced by sixth-generation small blocks, which include a 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter V8 that are estimated to deliver 400 hp and 475 hp, respectively. All engines will get a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard, with four-wheel drive (4WD) available on all trims and standard on Trail Boss and ZR2 trims.
Specs for the 2027 Silverado 1500 have not been released at the time of this writing, but we do know max towing with the previous generation was 13,300 pounds with the Duramax turbo-diesel engine, so max towing numbers for this new generation will likely match or exceed that with the new 6.6-liter V8. The best fuel economy you’ll see will be with the diesel, and it’ll range between 20 and 23 mpg in the city and 23 and 28 mpg on the highway, depending on drivetrain, tires, and trim. Since the base 2.7-liter engine will get a new transmission, we don’t have the 2027 fuel economy numbers yet, but the 2026 models deliver between 17 and 18 mpg in the city and 20 to 21 mpg on the highway. We don’t have any numbers yet for the new V8 engines. The 2027 Silverado 1500 will get three lifted off-road trims: the Custom Trail Boss, Trail Boss, and ZR2 models.

Interior
The interior of the 2027 Silverado 1500 is very tech-forward, with large standard digital displays and a new standard-across-the-board column-mounted gear shift. The Silverado 1500 will still offer a standard front bench seat with seating for up to six in lower-trimmed models, and the upper trims will have five-passenger seating with standard bucket front seats. Cloth seats will be standard, with leather available on premium trims. One big new feature for this model year will be the new Multi-Flex center console, which can fold flat for a sturdy work surface. Though a sunroof isn’t standard, the High Country trim will get a standard Silverado-first panoramic sunroof, which is also available on the ZR2, Trail Boss, and Silverado trims.
Technology
New for 2027, the Silverado 1500 has a standard 12.2-inch digital cluster and 16.3-inch infotainment screen. There is also an available 11.5-inch passenger screen. While there are an available 60 inches of screens, Chevrolet maintains the physical-touch buttons and dials for the HVAC and volume controls. Additionally, though General Motors has said it is going to start removing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from its vehicles, it will remain standard in the Silverado for now. Other available tech features include dual wireless phone chargers, Super Cruise hands-free highway driving with trailering capability, a head-up display, rear camera mirror, navigation, Google built-in, Wi-Fi hotspot capability (with a subscription), and 360-degree camera displays.
