The all-electric 2027 BMW iX4 is a sporty, coupe-style crossover based on the equally new iX3. The iX4 represents the first production fastback-shaped utility vehicle from BMW’s latest Neue Klasse era and follows on from past sloped-roof SUVs such as the BMW X4 and X6.

What’s New for the 2027 BMW iX4
The BMW iX4 is an all-new vehicle that debuts for the 2027 model year. It’s the third Neue Klasse model following the i3 sedan and iX3 crossover SUV. The iX4 is best described as a fastback version of the iX3. While the sporty roofline has an impact on the SUV’s interior and cargo space, it will appeal to EV shoppers who value design over practicality.
Design
BMW’s Neue Klasse trends are clearly seen in the iX4’s design. Like the related iX3, the 2027 iX4’s design is clean and uncluttered. At the front, the latest take on BMW’s signature kidney-shaped grille openings expand outward toward the sides of the vehicle and incorporate vertical slash-shaped lighting elements. Unlike the iX3, BMW’s M Sport package is standard on the iX4, adding 20-inch M light-alloy wheels and a package of exterior design elements that combine with the rakish roofline and rear spoiler for a sporty look.
Powertrain
The iX4 50 xDrive, which will be the initial model available, features a dual-motor electric powertrain that sends 463 horsepower to all four wheels. BMW predicts a 0–60 time of 4.7 seconds and a driving range between 384 and 428 miles, depending on options. With its ability to accept a maximum charge rate of 400 kW, BMW says the iX4 can add up to 184 miles in 10 minutes. Shortly after the 50 xDrive arrives, the range-topping iX4 M60 xDrive model will hit U.S. dealerships. With 603 hp and 645 pound-feet of torque, BMW estimates the iX4 M60 xDrive will accelerate from 0–60 in 3.7 seconds.
Interior
The minimalist Neue Klasse design language carries into the BMW iX4’s cabin. The interior’s emphasis on clean lines is evident, and the large amount of glass gives the car an airy feel. There are few buttons, with most features controlled by the large, centrally located touchscreen, but the steering wheel does have multifunction controls that illuminate when in use. The iX4 will offer three interior designs and several upholstery options including an interesting two-tone Agave Green color. A leather-like material BMW calls Veganza is fitted as standard and real leather is available.
Technology
The 2027 iX4 is filled to the brim with BMW’s latest technologies. The Panoramic iDrive system runs the manufacturer's Operating System X and incorporates Panoramic Vision, a full-width display at the bottom of the windshield, and a 17.9-inch central display that’s canted toward the driver. A 3D Head-Up Display is optional. BMW's Intelligent Personal Assistant is a voice-control system that is said to be self-learning courtesy of an artificial intelligence large language model and “enhanced by Amazon Alexa+ AI technology for more natural communication”. The central screen can be used to display video content with a TiVo-powered Video app, including Amazon Prime Video. BMW also provides access to a series of digital games.
Safety
The 2027 iX4 comes standard with a healthy suite of driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and rear cross-traffic alert. BMW’s Highway Assistant is available and allows for hands-free driving under certain circumstances at speeds up to 85 mph. The iX4 has not yet been crash-tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Pricing and Release Date
BMW expects the iX4 to go on sale in the U.S. in March 2027. At the time of writing, the 2027 iX4 50 xDrive’s base MSRP was $67,550. That’s $4,700 more than the equivalent iX3, but the iX4 includes the M Sport package that’s optional on the iX3. We’ll have to wait until closer to launch for a full pricing rundown, but we expect other iX4 variants to maintain a similar surcharge over their related iX3 models.
