It's easy to think of the Hyundai Elantra as an economy car that provides solid and reliable transportation, and anyone who does would be right. But add the letter N to the end of the name, and the Elantra becomes something quite different. The 2026 Hyundai Elantra N is a true sport sedan with a turbocharged engine and the choice of a six-speed manual or an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Though it may not be as well known as hot compacts such as the Volkswagen GTI or the Honda Civic Type R, buyers looking for some fun behind the wheel without breaking the bank would be wise to give the Elantra N a good look.

What’s New for the 2026 Hyundai Elantra N
The 2026 Hyundai Elantra N carries over unchanged from 2025 after receiving a refresh for the 2024 model year. A new addition to the lineup called the TCR Edition, however, benefits from notable upgrades over the standard version, including lightweight, gloss-black, 19-inch forged alloy wheels, four-piston monobloc front brake calipers, and a massive adjustable Swan-Neck carbon-fiber rear wing. Inside, the TCR Edition gets an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with Performance Blue accents, Alcantara trim, an N Performance aluminum door sill plate, and a new door puddle lamp.
Design
The Hyundai Elantra N wears sharply creased bodywork, which was refreshed in 2024 with a new bumper and headlight design compared to earlier models. Black exterior trim pairs with red highlights on the bumpers and side sill moldings to project a sporty look. The 2026 Elantra N TCR Edition, which was built to highlight Hyundai’s six consecutive TCR Manufacturers’ Championships in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series, looks even more aggressive thanks to its huge carbon fiber rear wing and forged 19-inch wheels.
Powertrain
All 2026 Hyundai Elantra N models are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 276 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque. Buyers can select from a standard six-speed manual or an optional automatic eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Either way, power flows to the front wheels through an electronically controlled N Corner Carving Differential. A quick boost of 10 extra horsepower is available on Elantra N models with the DCT by pressing the red N Grin Shift button on the steering wheel. That red button activates automatic rev matching on models equipped with the manual transmission. With its standard manual transmission, the 2026 Elantra N is estimated by the EPA to return 21 mpg in the city, 29 mpg on the highway, and 24 mpg combined. With its optional eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, those ratings drop to 20/27/23 mpg. An electronically controlled suspension system continuously adjusts the Elantra N’s damping force based on road conditions and driving characteristics. A number of performance settings are accessible through the car’s dashboard-mounted touchscreen so drivers can tailor the car’s feel.

Interior
The Elantra N’s interior looks and feels sporty with heated and well-bolstered seats trimmed in black leather and grippy Alcantara fabric with light blue contrast stitching. TCR Edition models also get an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, shift boot, parking brake, and console armrest. As a compact car similar in size to the Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla, the Hyundai Elantra N has enough room to seat four adults in relative comfort. The trunk offers around 14 cubic feet of space, which is pretty good for the segment.
Technology
Fun tech such as N Mode Launch Control and a variable exhaust valve add playfulness to the Elantra N’s list of tech features. Its centrally mounted 10.25-inch touchscreen serves as the infotainment system and includes screens that let owners adjust the car’s performance settings. A second screen, mounted directly in front of the driver, acts as a digital gauge cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, but require a physical wired connection. An eight-speaker Bose audio system pumps out the jams.
