The Ford Mustang entered its seventh generation for the 2024 model year with a series of performance and technology upgrades. With the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger out of production, there are no longer any direct competitors in the pony car class, but buyers might cross-shop the Toyota GR Supra, the Nissan Z, and the BMW M240i. The 2026 Ford Mustang is available in six trims: EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium, Dark Horse, and Dark Horse Premium.

What’s New for the 2026 Ford Mustang
The latest Mustang was launched in 2024, so the 2026 model is largely a carryover. However, there are some new options, including an FX Appearance Package exclusive to the GT Premium trim, which includes Oxford White wheels and retro plaid leather seat inserts. There are also two new exterior paint options: Adriatic Blue Metallic and Orange Fury Metallic Tri-Coat.
Design
The seventh-generation Mustang retains its well-known fastback design with standard LED headlights and sequential taillights. The 2026 Mustang comes standard with 18-inch silver alloy wheels, while 19-inch wheels with various finishes are available. Beyond wheel options, the Mustang is highly customizable, with numerous appearance packages, paint options, and racing stripes. Notable packages include the Mustang Nite Pony Package with black exterior accents, the Bronze Appearance Package with bronze wheels, and the Mustang RTR package with lime accents.
Powertrain
The Ford Mustang is a rear-wheel-drive model with three powertrain options: a 315-horsepower 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, a 480-hp 5.0-liter V8, and a 500-hp 5.0-liter V8. A 10-speed automatic is the only transmission option with the base engine, but a six-speed manual is standard on the V8, with the automatic being an option. The base engine delivers an EPA-estimated 22 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. The V8 engines' fuel economy varies based on transmission and power output, but it ranges from 14 to 16 mpg city and 22 to 24 mpg highway.

Interior
The 2026 Mustang has a 2+2 configuration, which means it seats four, but the rear seats are better suited for small passengers or cargo. Trunk volume is also limited at 13.5 cubic feet. The standard seating surfaces are cloth, but vinyl, synthetic leather, real leather, and microsuede seats are available depending on the trim. There is also a Recaro seat option on EcoBoost Premium, GT Premium, and Dark Horse models. One of the more interesting interior options is the ability to change the seatbelt colors.
Technology
The Mustang has a 12.4-inch customizable digital cluster and a 13.2-inch infotainment screen with Ford’s Sync 4 technology. Standard features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot, track apps for performance metrics, selectable drive modes, dual-zone automatic climate control, a nine-speaker audio system, and customizable ambient lighting. Available tech features include a magnesium-framed curved panoramic display, a 12-speaker B&O premium sound system, Pony puddle lamps, and heated and ventilated seats.
