The Tahoe is the smaller of Chevrolet’s two full-size, body-on-frame SUVs, making it essentially a shorter version of the Suburban. It excels at hauling people and trailers, with seating for up to nine and an 8,400-pound towing capacity.

What’s New for the 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe
The Tahoe, like the Suburban, gets only minor changes for 2026 after a refresh for 2025. A new RST Dark Essentials package comes with black mirror caps, black badges, and black 24-inch wheels. The new color is Polar White Tricoat, and there's also a new 22-inch bright split-spoke wheel. The changes for 2025 were more substantial, including revised exterior and interior designs and a larger 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Design
The Tahoe shares its basic design with the Suburban, but is shorter in wheelbase and behind the rear wheels. It sits high, with upright lines like a pickup truck, and the nose features the grille, headlights, and air intakes, all enclosed within a single opening. The grille is characterized by horizontal slats, though the Z71 trim adds vertical elements. Black rocker panels reduce some of the visual weight from the tall, slab-like sides, and an angled pillar behind the second-row seat is the only body line that suggests motion. At the rear, the Tahoe sports a roof spoiler, a full-width taillight, and quad exhaust outlets. Wheels ranging in size from 18 to 24 inches team with large tires to fill out the rounded wheel wells.
Powertrain
The Tahoe offers three engine choices, starting with a 5.3-liter V8 that produces 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. High Country buyers get a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque; this engine is optional on higher-level trims. Also optional is a 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel that produces 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) comes standard on all trims except the Z71; that gets four-wheel drive (4WD) with a two-speed transfer case, which is optional on all other trims. Every Tahoe uses a 10-speed automatic transmission. The diesel is the most efficient engine, with EPA ratings of 22 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined with RWD, and 20/24/22 mpg with 4WD. The 5.3-liter V8 is rated at 15/20/17 mpg with RWD and 15/19/17 mpg with 4WD. The 6.2-liter V8 is rated at 15/20/17 mpg with RWD and 14/18/16 mpg with 4WD. The Tahoe can tow up to 8,400 pounds, and offers a few features to improve towing, including blind-spot monitors with trailer coverage, reverse hitch guidance through the camera system, trailer sway control, and an integrated trailer brake controller. Every Tahoe offers 4WD with low-range gearing, but only the Z71 is meant as an off-roader. The Z71 rides on all-terrain tires and comes with front and rear skid plates to protect against rocks when off-roading.

Interior
With three rows of seats, the Chevrolet Tahoe can seat up to nine passengers thanks to an available front bench seat, which is quite rare nowadays. Turn the front seats into buckets and go with captain’s chairs in the second row, and the Tahoe seats seven. Cloth upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, two-way front seat lumbar adjustments, a manually adjustable front passenger seat, and tri-zone automatic climate control come standard. There are also quite a few more comfort and convenience features, including leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, driver’s seat memory, a power tilt/telescoping steering column, a heated steering wheel, heated outboard rear seats, power-folding second- and third-row seats, a dual-pane sunroof, and a power liftgate. The Tahoe offers generous cargo space, and those who need more room can opt for the larger Suburban. The Tahoe has 25.5 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 72.5 cubic feet behind the second row, and 122.7 cubic feet behind the first row. That’s about 22 cubic feet less than the Suburban.
Technology
The Tahoe has a very large 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen that runs Google built-in and comes standard with navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also standard are an 11-inch digital instrument cluster, a satellite radio trial, a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot, a six-speaker audio system, and OnStar Basics. OnStar Basics can respond to remote commands and has real-time traffic and navigation information, a voice assistant, and automatic crash response. Buyers can also get a wireless phone charger, a head-up display, and a 10-speaker Bose CenterPoint audio system.
