Toyota quality has fallen dramatically. I have driven a 1997 Toyota Tercel for many years before buying this vehicle. I chose it base on my experience with the Tercel which was still running fine when I traded it in, but it finally started to show rust.
The 2009 RAV4, being 12 years newer is already showing signs of body rust along the bottom edge.
Also, I didnt learn about an ongoing issue with the torque converter in the 4 cylinder version of this vehicle line until after I bought it and notice odd rumbling noise at around 40 mph. After doing research it seems this is caused by a poorly designed transmission+torque converter. The transmission fluid is dark with particles in it. So far, it is still going, but this has caused me to lose confidence in it.
I chose an older RAV4 because they have true 4 wheel drive and because they come with a full size spare. Both of these features are important if you plan drive out in the sticks. I like the design, just wish the quality was still there.Apr 28, 2024

I love the Toyota RAV4 especially the 2012. I was in a terrible accident in my own where I hydroplaned into a wall, flipped over it and rolled my car over 95 at 9am in the pouring rain. I had my seatbelt on and all the airbags did the job. Even though I was upside down and had to crawl out the back driver side door, I got out on my feet with only a bloody noes that wasnt even broken. Ofcourse I was sore, but Im alive. ❤️ TOYOTAMar 13, 2024

I love my RAV4. My first RAV4 was a 2001 and it ran perfectly. I left the country and gave it to my mechanic at 240,000 miles and he gave it to his grandson. Now that I’m back I had no hesitation about getting a used RAV4 with half that mileage. It’s great for going around town and hauling things and animals. Just a fun car to drive. A little loud but that’s the only negative. Sep 28, 2023

The Gen3 RAV4 with the V6 goes like a rocket. Too bad they stopped making it with that engine.Jun 19, 2023

I love the performance and having the third row seating. The center differential lock has helped in sticky situations.
I was surprised to find that my 8.5 ride height was not carried over to the newer model RAVsOct 15, 2022

Im always a little apprehensive about buying used cars and it takes me a while to get used to a different car. So far this car seems like a good value, relative to the times (used car prices have skyrocketed). Not the smoothest ride, but that doesnt really bother me. I was looking for something that would stand the test of time and reliably get me from point A to point B...only time will tell. So far it seems GREAT on gas mileage!Feb 17, 2022

Good features more than I needed or wanted, but came at a great value and price. Nothing missing, compared to a Honda CRVNov 09, 2021

This is a great car for all kinds of family adventure -- plenty of space, ability to carry bikes and other equipment, even tow something not to heavy. This specific model RAV4 V6 has a very powerful engine Toyota now only puts into Highlander bigger model, so kick is very impressive and can help you out of dangerous or critical situations. Handling is great, not very sporty though, as car is taller than regular sedan, so tilts while making a turn.Mar 16, 2015

Its a good overall car for trips, sporting activities, and transporting household goods. The car is very reliable, low maintenance and decent fuel economy. Fun car to drive handles well in all seasons. Over all very practical car to own and drive. Aug 02, 2013

This is a fun little utility vehicle. Good gas mileage and has been reliable for the 3 years I have owned it. More style than a CR-V. Comfortable front seats. The accelerator can be a little sensitive and doors sound a little hollow when closed.Apr 17, 2013

I loved everything about it and disliked nothing. We get free inspections, free oil changes, free 7 yr warranty, free car washes, free loaner cars, free pick up and delivery of vehicle and loaner cars too. I love this SUV!Dec 31, 2012

Thisis the second Toyota Rav4 I have owned. The first was a 1996 and was fantastic. The same goes for this model. This is a smaller SUV/truck and gets fantastic gas mileage, averaging 26 city and 30 highway miles. The V6 engine gives it great acceleration. The back folds down for cargo room. This vehicle is dependable and upkeep is reasonable. What I found most interesting with this car is the headlights. I know that sounds odd, though we had lived in a mountain community. On regular beam, people would flash as if we had the brights on! When the brights are on, the distance you can see is phenomenal. The one down side is the view out the front windows. With the angular frame, peripheral view requires an extra look, though this isminimal compared to the many positive features. This car is great on re-sale and holds it's worth, as it should. Dependable, great gas mileage, nice family car.May 31, 2012

Overall it is a great vehicle for about anything. It will get you through the daily commute. It hauls and carries just about anything you would need it to; groceries, kids, furniture, large boxes, snow boards, small trailers, etc. It is GREAT on icy roads during winter. Overall I would probably buy it again if I had a bunch of kids or did a lot of outdoor sports and needed "that" type of car.Apr 10, 2012

GREAT in snow, great MPG for what it is, but smaller than it seems. Tons of headroom, decent field of vision while driving. The trunk design in annoying, and the front seats are taller than they need to be, but the width it quite smallMar 16, 2012

The RAV4 handles incredibly well. The engine is extremely quick for a 4-cylinder. The ride is very smooth and turning is a dream. I like the overall interior and how the Ipod adapter is set up so you can change settings as you drive.Aug 03, 2009

The fastest car I've ever owned. Quicker than a Mazda Miata. 0-60 in 6.1 seconds and quarter mile in 14.6 seconds! Great gas mileage to boot!
Build quality is great. It's a Toyota.
Appearance is sleek. Leather inside, moonroof, JBL audio + subwoofer.
Cost is low. I only expect routine maintenance.
It is very fun!May 17, 2009

The new redesign of the RAV4 for 2007 is impressive. It looks much more appealing than earlier versions. Outside the grill is nice and shiny, the wheels are decent looking, and the rear spoiler is appealing. The limited model sports a peppy V6 engine. It shifts superbly and accelerates very quickly. The interior is roomy to accommodate 5 passengers very comfortably. The stereo system sounds very good. It also includes an in dash 6-Disc CD changer with MP3 and WMA capability. Inside the glove box is an aux jack to plug in your iPod or other portable MP3 player. This saves from poor radio transmitted quality. This is a great car but with a bit overpriced tag.Oct 04, 2008

This car has decent power (269 HP and 246 lbft)
and handling. On road driving is great, offroad
compromised some by tires but still capable.
I would still like to increase power, the car can
handle more. The ESP can be great and also
annoying when driving hard. I'm very napping with
this car. Sep 20, 2008

Great size, comfortable seating position. Gauges are clear and easy to read. Very versatile storage. Has a storage bay under floor on trunk. 2nd row seats fold flat to floor, and has tilt, forward and back adjustments. actually 1 or 2 MPG less than Camry sedan. Transmission though smooth, isn't as impressive as V-6, which is 5-speed auto and 1 mpg worse gas mileage.Jun 03, 2008

The RAV 4 is agile in sharp turns and narrow spaces. It has nice comfort and leg room. Roomy cargo area. Good accelleration for a 4 cyl.May 08, 2007
