I went to look at this truck and was told before the visit it only had a few scratches on the body. I own a professional landcruiser restoration shop. This truck had some many proublems . Body would need a complete restoration. Drive train had many areas that would need to be replaced or repaired. My estimated repair cost would be well over 30k. The price they are asking for this truck is hwy robbery. It should be listed for no more than 10k. May 26, 2024

This particular model, equipped with the turbo diesel, can be expected to run into the typical issues associated with aging turbo technology. Also, seen by many in the off-road community as less capable than its Land Cruiser twin. All told, still a fantastic vehicle for the casual off-roader who appreciates the uniqueness of this nostalgic 90s overland vehicle. May 24, 2022

I have a love/hate relationship with this SUV. It is one of the most capable and comfortable wagons Toyota ever made. It is already in its 20s and is still going strong. My only complaint about this era vehicle was the underpowered, gas guzzler petrol engine.
Once I ditched the 3EFI motor for a diesel that remedied the fuel consumption problem. I was originally only getting 10-to-12 MPG, but now I'm getting 17-to-20 MPG depending on my driving. A big fuel savings in spite of the difference in fuel costs.
I believe the FJ80 is an excellent platform for conversions. Their relatively inexpensive as used SUVs go, nearly indestructible, and have both good on and off road characteristics. Great for adventuring the country.Jan 06, 2015

Most reliable SUV ever! It was so much fun driving this vehicle. Too many good memories. Excellent off road and on...
It's hard to think of a negative. It would have been nice to have the V8 engine but I put 320,000 hard miles usually towing a trailer. Zero maintenance costs... Nov 24, 2013

Great product! I have owned many. What you hear and read about them are true! I would buy them used, they last and you can save money. You get what you pay for. I have always been able to find a home for a good used Toyota!Nov 11, 2013

I met some one, once, who had one like this. He told me that the manufacturer made a mistake building those Land Cruiser. I asked him what he means. He said: "They are too well made, they are too reliable." I agree with that after owning one for 11 years and counting. If you don't check the speedometer, you won't realise that you speeding. Very smooth acceleration, good braking and handling. It is fun to drive and I particulary feel safe driving it.Oct 14, 2012

Still looks good for 1994 Model year, 4WD Hi & Low, makes Land Cruiser the perfect SUV for bad weather & snow driving, yet very reliable, Toyota Land Cruiser is the SUV to have since the value keeps going up due to the demand.Oct 04, 2011

Performance - Acceleration is great as is Braking and handling, but brakes can get a bit squeeky at times.
Build Quality - Has had a few things repaired but it's just normal wear.
Appearance - Interior is really good not cheap looking at all, and exterior styling is great.
Cost of Ownership - Its great on fuel even though it is diesel.
Fun Factor - It is great fun to drive on and off road.Aug 04, 2011

Bought my sweet LandCruiser when in AZ when it was 2yrs young, and it moved to TX with me for 2 years, and the last 7 now in Germany. This vehicle is awesome! I have a hoopty for general around town and to-from work, but every so often i treat myself to driving my baby- he loves to open up on the Autobahn! Had an Opel sedan hit me in a Stau on the Autobahn a few years ago - wiped away the front half of her Opel, and I had a scratched bumper...! Of course, I had her buy me a new towing frame and painted bumper, but my heart was hurt more seeing my LandCruiser injured, than there was damage to him! Minute - insignificant note would be a slight dripping above the driver's left foot rest when it's raining hard, or i'm flying down the Autobahn. And, to the note about poor brake pad wear: it was 7 years before i had to change my first pair...if you understand you're driving a beast, and it takes longer to get stopped, you learn to brake gradually, when possible, and not ride the brakes nor slam them in your daily outings. Otherwise, i've turned down a few offers to sell, because i love my Limited Edition 40th Anniversary LandCruiser that much! Jun 13, 2010

I have come to love this car as I would a child. Don't talk about performance. Horrible acceleration, zero roadholding but, my God, what a great sense of warmth and security. This car has been all over Thailand, into the jungle, through Bangkok floods and nothing has ever stopped it. Except for the replacement of some parts, it has been like a tank. Love, love, love.Sep 18, 2009

You simply can't destroy this beast... love it... comfy and performance is great... with 3 diff locks and a factory winch... full-time four wheel drive... This vehicle is simply amazing. I still believe this is the last of the real 4x4 Land Cruiser... the rest are luxury vehicles.Jul 08, 2009

GXL 80 series Waggon: Best performance for any Landcruiser upto this year of manuf. Build quality the best. Mine has done 380000+km with no heavy spanner anywhere near it. Clutch and brakes seen its weakest point. Brakes are great but wear rate on front is higher than I would have expected. Always a good looking 4X4 and look ma! No rust! Best economy was 15.55 L per 100km. Worst was over 25L/p/100KM. Fun?! You bet! Third LC I have owned. Previous 2 were 1973 & 75 FJ55 Wagons. This beats them hands down.
Update: Sept 2013 - now done 418,000 KM, still going strong..new radiator and water pump since last entry. Still consider this a top 4x4. Hard to beat unless your going to buy a G Wagon or Pinz!Jun 19, 2009

Well let's see... This thing is a BEAST, plain and simple. By no means is it fast, but it is not slow. I can easily cruise at 80 MPH on the freeway. The build quality is absolutely amazing, with 250,000 miles on the clock and STILL running strong. Offroad performance is stellar, even with open F/R diffs. However, the gas mileage isn't that great. I get about 10-11 MPG average.
Overall this is an excellent vehicle. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an all-around tough 4x4, yet still wants to travel in style, and doesn't worry about gas.Aug 17, 2008

This is the best truck in it's class, the only thing better than this truck is an 80 with more work done to it. These go well straight out of the box. The fuel economy is not too bad considering it weighs 3 ton and has a 4.5 litre petrol motor. It goes pretty much anywhere off road you want to point it.Aug 07, 2008

Fantastic 4x4 up here in the north-west Montana Mountains! We love it overall with only one dislike, the milage! Working on that change with a hydrogen system added to the gasoline fuel to improve milage, performance and cleaner oil with fewer changes. Now we are getting (with a 60 mile commute a day) 14.5 miles to the gallon, with Hydrogen system around 21 miles to the gallon with more power.Apr 19, 2008
