I have a 2014 2.5i manual transmission And I absolutely love it. It has more power than I thought and I average about 30 -33 miles to the gallon on the highway. I can’t say enough about this car. I feel safe and I love the suspension and how it drives. I got this car specifically to take on long trips to the mountains. I’ve been in the process of researching camper conversion kits for the Outback. So far it’s ability to navigate over rough terrain is awesome. The biggest feature for me was the manual transmission that is only about $1200 to fix vs. a CVT auto transmission upwards of 6000. The radio is somewhat outdated but I can overlook that based on the value and other features of this car Aug 06, 2023

This vehicle is a great value. Extremely comfortable, balanced ride on the highway, and for the amount of space, extremely fuel efficient. Left my home in Louisville for Monroe, LA with less than 500 miles on odometer. Driving at 75mph with the AC on, we got 28.9 mpg for the 1,400 miles roundtrip. That came to about 50 gallons of reg. gas; compared to 69 gallons of premium used by our 08 Mazda CX7 on our last trip.

I purchased a 2011 Outback Limited with the 3.6R engine for my wife. (Everything except Nav) After driving it from Maine to Oklahoma (home), I had to have my own Outback so I sold my 2010 Maxima and purchased another 2011 Outback Limited with the 3.6R engine except this time with nav.
I frequently refer to my outbacks as Honda Accords with AWD, however much more practical. You can haul and carry a lot of stuff home from Lowes. I have several suggestions for improvement (explained later) and have actually conveyed them to Subaru. (Probably will fall on deaf ears though, however I did receive a nice response.) At 160,000 miles our 2011 Outback Premium continues to be reliable. Whats gone bad? One rear wheel bearing at 148,000 miles. Largest cost of ownership (except for gas/oil)? $700 at 115,000 miles for scheduled timing belt/idlers/water pump replacement. Excellent vehicle.Jul 31, 2021

The owner is very forthcoming with information about the vehicle, and make test driving it as easy as possible. The car appears to be in good shape and is being offered at a good price. It steers, corners, accelerates, and brakes well, as long as you are familiar with stick shift. However, I did not find the sweet spot in the manual transmission in my test drive that the owner refers to in the ad. It felt a bit more loosely coupled than I expected, given this. This car is fun to drive and handles well for a large station wagon. The Flat 4 engine is mounted low in the engine bay to give it a better center of gravity for handling turns. This car has plenty of power with the continuously variable transmission and has no problem climbing hills. It automatically finds the best gear ratio to match the engine speed and deliver optimal fuel economy.Jan 02, 2015

I upgraded my Outback with EyeSight for safety and love it! I'm convinced it's saved me from a few fender benders already. I like the roominess. But I buy Subarus (this is my fourth) for their overall quality, reliability, safety, power/performance and 4wd capability. Compared with the rest of the lineup the 3.6L Outback Limited is loaded with luxury features like the moon roof, leather/power/heated seats, bluetooth connectivity, navigation, rear backup camera, etc. For a mere $1200 extra you can get the EyeSight system too! I love this car and am pretty sure it will keep me happy for the next 10 years of ownership before I'm likely to upgrade again.Aug 11, 2013

This car, like every other Subaru I've owned is fun to drive. H6 Boxer engine has some pickup, allowing you to pass others easily on the highway and makes going up Mountain passes a breeze. The handling is spot on, turns on a dime and the tires really grip the ground. Lots of cargo room, the cabin doesn't feel cramped like in prior generations. Special Appearance Package also includes push button start, side view mirror blinkers, and drivers seat memory, all huge bonuses to a already solid car.
The interior styling in the front cabin is kinda an eye sore, especially the horrible looking buttons in the Navigation System. The Nav is hard to use. It shouldn't take a 200 page book to show me how to use it. Fuel economy also suffers in the H6, but so far is spot on from the EPA rating. Jun 02, 2013

This is a very practical car. Perfect for hauling friends, family, pets, groceries, gear and whatever you got without all the cumbersome features of a van or giant SUV. Its comfortable, fun, cute, sporty and gets good mileage. Its easy to drive, park and can turn on a dime.
The Outback handles really well. Its acceleration is smooth and steady but definitely responsive. The brakes are fast and efficient with out compromising the cars stability. The (CVT) transmission is easy to use and perfect for ski trips or off the beaten path adventures.
The Bluetooth and other gadget features included in the stereo system add another dimension of practicality. Jul 25, 2012

You simply cant beat the quality and value of these AWD's! Safe, reliable, and comfortable...and absolute snow killers! This Outback goes anywhere...almost as good as my Suburban and twice the mileage/gallon! After extensive shopping this is hands down best value AWD ! Only real criticism is the stock tires are fine for summer, but are horrible in the snow...a car of this capability and reputaion in the snow should come with a far better winter capable AT. We run snows up here, but that surprise storm that caught us on stocks was baaad! I would recommend the Outback to anyone...just insist on snows or an all season upgrade!May 03, 2012

Very solid and effecient. An excellent four season performer. Aside from the speed, it does not feel much different than Audis I have driven. It is not nearly as beautiful as an Audi, but it cost far less. It was also built in a Zero Land Fill Factory, is most recyclable, and a PZEV (partial zero emmission vehicle, which I do not understand because zero has no parts?) making it a greener choice than any hybrid.
