Although older model, this is a good budget offroader, with 4x4 capabilities. Parts easily available. Mercedes build quality. In todays market, good value if you find one for the rt price. Jun 23, 2022

Great car, has served my family well for many years. It was my first car and was great for me. Good sound system, adequate power, great off-road performance. A solid vehicle in most ways. I would recommend it to a friendMay 10, 2015

Excellent overall vehicle. Very reliable. Versatile and sporty. Maintenance costs were not very high. Would buy parts direct and take to a mechanic and pay for labor. Strong engine, turns on the drop of a dime yet comfortable on road trips.Mar 24, 2015

I connect to Pandora through my I-Phone and when a call comes in, I talk hands free. The tires are less than one year old, and I drive less than 15,000 miles each year. The back seat folds down and there is a large cargo area for an SUV this size. Jul 21, 2014

I have a 1999 ML 320, which was my moms car but was very recently passed down to me. This car is an amazing vehicle and currently has 198000 miles on it and is 15 years old. There has never been a issue regarding reliability. Living in New England with the awful winters, it handles exquisitely in the ice and snow (especially with the low range button for blizzards). I think it is very comfortable. The leather is very comfortable, high quality, and extremely durable. The dashboard is a soft-tex material too which is very nice. I think my parents bought it with the premium package and an upgrade to a BOSE stereo system which still sounds great today. Also, I have plenty of leg room and head space when sitting inside the car and I am 6'1''. For performance, it may have only 215HP but it uses all of them and accelerates pretty quickly for its age and weight. The engine creates a a lot of torque and we have successfully been able to tow a boat (towing rated for 5000lbs). If I need to merge onto the highway really quickly it will accelerate extremely quickly if you floor it. Handling is impeccable. I've recently taken it off-roading and it had no problem (which I would expect because this model was used by the german army for military stuff). Maintenance from what my parents have told me was somewhat annoying. Although there are things that just need to be replaced throughout the life of a car, the catalytic converters would break alot in both of my parents mercedes (my dad has the ML350) which sucks because they're made from platinum, therefore making them very expensive ($2000). However, it didn't have to go to the shop very often for repairs. Rusting isn't really a issue. The only place where there is rust is along the trunk handle (which is a small area) and a little along the handle to open the hood. Overall, this is an extremely well-built, well-engineered, high-quality SUV and I definitely intend on staying with Mercedes-Benz when I am older and mostly likely buy and ML for myself.May 24, 2014

Appearance- classy and bubbly
Build Quality- Anything with a Mercedes symbol is bound to be pricey to fix or maintain. I definitely got my money's worth with this vehicle.
Performance-This car is so well built and handles fantastic on the road. I had to travel alot for work and this vehicle was my Smooth Sanctuary on Wheels.May 26, 2012

Great value. Perfect family vehicle and much more cargo space than you would think. Car handles well and has a smooth ride. This car will comfortable seat 5 adults and two small children with the captains chairs installed and you still have cargo space in the rear. I would purchase again!Apr 19, 2012

I am an original owner, and even thought there were a few issues with it in the first five years of ownership, it was all fixed under warranty, and it's been a great commute and family car.
We purchased another, smaller SUV, and kept this one as a third car, but we are not using it at all now, so we decided to let it go. It is a terrific car.Apr 17, 2012

The brakes are in great shape. The car really handles well in traffic and on the road. Its a quiet ride such as the one that would be expected from mercedes benz. .A joy to own and drive.Great car to drive and own. It gives you the power that you ask for when you need it for passing or getting on the freeway and it really rides like a car that is much bigger.Nov 23, 2011

Performance: great engine, it is very powerful and performs well.
Build Quality: solid car (small truck). Other than a computer issue and
brakes all other repairs normal. This car does require a lot of brake
jobs and they still squeak. A weakness with Mercedes.
Appearance: Good looking car..won't win any awards.
Cost of ownership - normal for car of this quality.
Fun car to drive, Plenty of get up an go.Jun 07, 2011

Great performance and reliable. Handles well in any weather. Extreme stability and always feel safe and comfortable while driving. Exterior has great body styling. The best midsized SUV I've driven. Only discomfort for me is where the cup holders are placed. Mar 06, 2011

I have had this car for a about a year and a half with 109000
miles currently and no maintenance issues. I change the oil
regularly and had an alignment and new tires, thats about it. It
handles well and feels very safe for my baby to ride in. There
are like 12 airbags and it has quite a spacious interior. The
obvious cons are that the electronics are a bit outdated and the
walnut trim as well but it is a very good looking vehicle (orion
blue with grey leather) and I will likely have this for many years
or buy a new one! Jan 12, 2010

performance - Excellent acceleration, good braking distance, excellent handling for a suv.
build quality - exceptional build quality, no mechanical or body problems
appearence - awesome, kind of a plum color, with matching tint on every window.
cost of ownership - pretty cheap to drive, excellent milage, kind of high insurance tho

Car is awesome, Performance is great, drives like a truck with the stability of small car. Quality is the greatest and its german engineering at its best. Appearance is very elegant and with lots of personality. The cost is worth it's value.Aug 06, 2009

I have had this car for a long time now and I love it, nice V8, great features, beautiful interior, plus I got the upgraded BOSE stereo which is AMAZING! However gas mileage sucks and it's expensive to maintain...plus it needs specific parts which are crazy expensive (example tires cost $200 each and go after 10,000 miles!!!!)Jun 24, 2009

A little too much oversteer for a AWD - feels like rear wheel drive. I love its 300 plus horsepower as it really gets up and goes - with a roar! The build quality is superior as it has over 100,000 miles and not one squeak. It's as quiet as a tank inside (when the tank's turbine engine is off of couse).May 12, 2009

Great balance in an SUV. Enough power, good mileage, nice amenities, classy MB look. It is meant to be a truck, not a car, so if you don't want a truck go elsewhere. But some of us want the toughness of a truck, with luxury amenities. Fun to drive -- you feel like you can handle anything that comes at you. Flies along at 85 mph comfortably on the freeway. Some of the consumer magazines have poor mouthed these, with the result that the prices on used ones are amazingly reasonable. We've got both a 2001 (175,000 mi.) and a 2002 (54,000 mi.). We'll be keeping them both for the foreseeable future. Feb 15, 2009

This SUV corners like a train on tracks. Awesome Bose system, and fierce acceleration are some more pluses and of course a fun one. Highly recommendedJul 02, 2008

I took this car for a test drive and could not get over how smoothly it drove...until we tried to take a corner. Then it felt decidely truck-like. Other than that, the car was very Mercedes-like, with wonderfully soft leather. The cupholders are a bit chinzy looking, but otherwise, a great car!Oct 13, 2006
