The car is underpowered and lacks ground clearance. They should drop it from production and replace it with the tried-and-true old Cherokee Scout with the 4.0 straight 6 engine.
That wont happen.Apr 20, 2020

I really liked the oveall experience in this car. Definitely no regrets but lot of glad moments. This ride made me look like a king during the worst snow storm from NJ to Mass. Solid Jeep! Long rides were fun and never had trouble with the car so far. Running strong like new after 130K miles. This is my second grand cherokee. Previous one i had was a 1999 V8. Liked the later better.Apr 10, 2015

I purchased a 2007 Grand Cherokee Limited in 2009 with 25,000 miles on it. It's now up to 91,000 and still looks and runs great.
With the exception of the water pump (see below), I have done nothing else but preventive regular maintenance you have to do with any car. Gas, Tires, Oil, Transmission check at 70,000 --Drain, Flush, etc. We have rough Winters here in New England, and this is the vehicle to own. With 4 wheel drive and high clearance it goes through 2ft or more of snow like it is not there. Very stable ride, smooth, quiet, sits up nice. My wife and I so happy with this one, I sure we will buy another Jeep Grand Cherokee in the future.
I do my own maintenance as I'm an engineer and somewhat mechanically inclined. The Jeep is exceptionally easy to work on. Just buy the service manual at any auto parts store and you can do anything on your vehicle.
I had to replace the water pump twice, luckily the pump came with a warranty so it was free. I think it might have failed the second time because I did not back flush the system when I replaced it, so some debris from the first pump probably damaged the second pump.
We have had a couple of other annoying issues however. Ever since we replaced the tires the low tire pressure sensors give false low pressure indications all the time, and some times the driver side window switch seems to not work and you have to press it multiple times.Jan 02, 2015

I bought this car new. My wife has always wanted a Jeep, so I got her this one. Didn't take long for her to change her mind, as soon as she realized how much it cost to drive, ie: fuel. The Jeep was good on trips, and I absolutely loved driving it in the mountains. I set the cruise and the Jeep would keep the speed within 5 mph of the setting wether I was giong up a hill or coming down. One excellent feature.Dec 17, 2014

Don't get me wrong... it's still an American made SUV with typical quality issues but nothing I feel worth complaining about. The OVERLAND Edition enhanced trim level got some help from me with oversized black steel rims and tires, tinted windows and wheel rain guards.
Other small modifications have improved gas mileage and boosted performance. Resonator has been removed from exhaust system and a MagnaFlow glasspack muffler makes for a perfect street roar. Truck sticks to road better than any Corvette I've owned with oversized front and rear sway bars and the Bilstein shocks and struts provide the perfect height and aggressive stance. Adding wider tires provides stability and stance. Cross drilled rotors and high performance brake pads provide powerful braking ability.
The OVERLAND edition combined with my upgrades makes this a unique vehicle. I love to drive it. Nov 02, 2014

The acceleration, braking, handling & safety is a 10 on a scale of 1 - 10. The pickup and go is there as well! I know now why these vehicles are so popular and hold its value. Would recommend getting one of these!Oct 03, 2014

Very powerful, can pull anything. I am very impressed with all the amenities and the ease of use. Comfortable to drive, even on long trips. Quiet ride, smooth shifts and there always seems to be more power if you need it.Sep 03, 2014

This car looks amazing and actually is amazing, the performance is top of the line for a SUV and the acceleration just leaves me speechless every time I touch the gas pedal. It is the car to have if you like speed.Sep 03, 2014

This is my third one, I'm truly a jeep fan. Has never let me down, I've never been stuck in it. It's comfortable as well. Just wish it had more of a luxury interior instead of the rugged stuff. And it comes with a DVD player that can only work while parked, really pretty useless.Mar 21, 2014

We've enjoyed all aspects of this vehicle to suit out family's needs. Being able to tow various boats, carry canoes or a storage box on our roof rack for trips has made our outdoor life more manageable. Going off road or traveling during snow storms has never stopped us knowing we have reliable and safe transportation.
We'll buy another Jeep based on our satisfaction with this one and it'll surely impress it's new owner.Mar 05, 2014

There's nothing wrong with this vehicle like I mentioned besides the gas mileage. It's great for snow trips as well as just cruising around town. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who doesn't commute haha =) It's also a very safe vehicle. Not too big where you can't maneauver it properly but big enough to feel comfort. Dec 06, 2013

I love the security of higher driving, 4WD and the solidity of the car. Nothing felt cheap. The cargo area is amazing for whatever you need to bring along. Comfort, stylish yet sporty, and safe driving. Only in a JEEP!Oct 19, 2013

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is the perfect mix between luxury and functionality. You don't feel like you're in a rugged SUV when you're sitting in the drivers seat but you can haul five people and all of their winter ski gear without a problem for that winter getaway (or canoes and coolers for that summer river trip).
This SUV is extremely safe, has a very smooth ride and the power-train warranty is amazing.
I would definitely recommend this car to family and friends.
I never owned a Jeep before this Grand Cherokee, but I will likely only buy Jeeps ever again!! I now know what people mean when they say they are Jeep People.Jun 06, 2013

Definitely a car I regret buying. There were multiple things going wrong with this car with only 45,000 miles on it, so much so that I decided I had to get rid of it before even more expensive repairs came up. With only 45,000 miles on it the ignition coil broke, the air bag sensors continuously went off (warning sensors), water was leaking through the handle on the a-pillar, the moonroof constantly rattled, the glovebox didn't close properly, one of the alloy wheels had begun to flake, the paint on the hood was bubbling(!), I could go on and on and on about what broke on this car. Aside from the mechanical defects the interior was very loud, and the fuel economy was awful, averaging only 16.5 mpg.
If there is a silver lining in this car it is that it was great in the snow/ice, and the Boston Acoustics speakers were very nice. That's about the only good things I can think of.
I bought this car instead of a Highlander/Pilot/CX9 thinking "how bad could it be?". Don't make the same mistake I did.Mar 12, 2013

This Jeep is geared low, so it has excellent acceleration. It handles very well and feels safe while driving. The cabin is quiet and has smooth ride. The seat is comfortable and adjustable, so the Jeep fits like a glove. Very dependable vehicle, just standard maintenance.Nov 05, 2012

Great SRT-powered 4-wheel drive SUV,
with the 6.1l HEMI V8 and 425hp it is a great red light-racer.
This car is so much fun to drive with, especially in Europe where nobody
expects what power it has under the hood.
I had so much fun in this car !Aug 12, 2012

If you are going to by this vehicle, BUY THE V8.
The interior is great and you can't ask for better options.
While the V6 isn't the most powerful engine the gas milage could be better
Lots of fun aftermarket accessories to buy for these :-)Feb 10, 2011

This car was incredible. I had very few problems overtime. The only thing I have to say bad about it is the gas mileage, but when you're buying a Jeep, you don't care about that. It was powerful, fun to drive, and could carry 5 people and plenty of cargo. Rest assured, when I'm off this rock, I'll be buying a Jeep or Dodge again!Dec 17, 2010

Performace: Under powered for a 3.7L V6
Build Quality: Better than the WJ.
Appearance: Interior could have been better, Exterior is amazing.
Cost of Ownership: Mileage about 18L/100 KM, Maintenance costs are average.
Fun Factor: For a 4x4 that does not have low range it does quite well in snow and minor off-road journeys.Jun 24, 2009

I have the 5.7L Hemi. Enough said! Makes a heavy vehicle a nimble mover. Only issues with Jeep since new, a few computer codes checked out ok. And had to replace hood gas shock prop the other day. The ones on lift gate are fine. Leased this Jeep for a 27 month term. Took it before lease was up on a Missouri to Montana trip.It performed and handled flawlessly. It sold me right there. Bought out lease and wife & I love our Jeep. The leather seats never fatigued us once on the trip. Yes, it could use a more luxurious dash. But, it is a Jeep!It does everything I want it to do. Great in snow also!Mar 16, 2009

Great vehicle overall. It is a Jeep so it can get up the mountain like no other. However. It has so many gadgets in it that cost so much to replace that I am scared to take it on anything other then the asphalt. Have had just a couple of problems with it, but nothing major that wasn't my fault. :)Sep 16, 2008

I love the new interior, it's almost perfect. However, the center console is cheap-feeling, and the plastic chrome accents are not solid and look really fake.
The HEMI has more power over the 4.7L, however it's MDS feature is worthless, adding an advertised 15% better gas mileage, but in reality it's much worse than that. The car weights over 6,000 lbs so gas mileage is pretty crappy, but that's no surprise for a 5.7L V8. I get about 12 MPG average in city and highway driving.
The seats are not 8-way power like my old 1999 Grand Cherokee Limited, with manual lumbar adjustment, the passenger seat only 4-way power (can't move up/down), driver is 6-way power -- but the front of the seat doesn't go up as high as I would like it to.
The wood and leather steering wheel is a very nice touch, but where the wood meats the leather, big gaps are visible which make it look cheap.
I hate how the door locks are in the exact same spot as where I like to put my arm while driving, and the window sill is too high. The 1999 GC Limited didn't have these issues.
Sirius satellite, while free for the first year, sounds TERRIBLE, even when compared to standard FM. This is a known issue (google it), with XM offering slightly better quality. The Sirius real-time traffic is neat, but not very practical, as it only shows major roadways and sometimes nothing at all. Once my subscription runs out I will not be renewing.
The navigation/radio system sometimes gets "stuck" and won't let you press a button unless you "refresh" it by going to another screen and then back again. I'm sure there will be a software update to address this problem.
The last negative thing I can think of is that the seat doesn't offer adequate side support, and I feel that I need to hold on to the center console when making sharp turns. You can't hold onto the shifter like with the < 2005 models because you will shift the gear down/up -- pretty annoying, but not a big deal.
OK, now for the things I like. There are waaaaay too many to list, but I will try to touch on the best ones.
The 30GB HDD is absolutely great! It has about 16 GB of space for your own music/pictures, which is more than plenty. I recommend buying a 16 GB flash drive (~ $50 on Amazon), and use it to hold your music collection including playlists.
The navigation is solid, and very useful. The LED-illuminated instrument panel looks very good and is very functional. Love the HID headlights with the SmartBeam and auto-leveling features.
The exterior styling is superb, looks great at any angle. Gas mileage aside, I absolutely love this car.Aug 28, 2008

Great car, great motor power, very maneuverable despite it's length. I don't like plastic dashboard with very cheap look. Automatic gearbox is very smooth, consumption is good for this kind of car. Driving Cherokee is very comfortable on pavement as is also very good at off-road. During 1 year ownership i had no problems with car. Using car computer is a little bit too complicated for average user. Generally, very good car for this money, cheaper and competitive also with Mercedes ML420 and BMW X5 3.0D.Aug 22, 2008

The performance from the 3.7 litre is lacking. This is just too much weight for the little engine. The build quality has been just fine. I've had no problems at all. Even though the engine is gutless, I still get terrible gas mileage. I average about 16 miles per gallon in town. Overall this is a good vehicle, the ride is smooth, and I've had no problems. Generally I love this vehicle, not crazy about the gas mileage but what can you expect with 420HP. Have had only minor issues with the car, brake pads had to be replaced at 20K for over $1G (Brembo). I would certainly recommend this vehicle for someone who wants speed and performance in an SUV, the only comparable SUV would be the Porsche and that is over $100G.Jun 14, 2008

My first impression on this vehicle was "ok, it's a Jeep. An SUV that I normally don't like because of past incidents with SUVs and rollovers." But as I test drove it for the first time I felt the stability of it and how it handled the road. My first few weeks after I received it were getting to know how it handled to different driving conditions and weather conditions which I was surprised with how it handled. It plowed through 30+ cm deep snow with ease (taking it easy of course) and then quickly changed it's attitude once it hit the flat top as if it never went through the snow. Fuel millage is pretty good for a vehicle of this type as well coming in at 14.1L per 100Km Highway/City combined. straight Highway normally gets me around 9L-10L per 100km and city gets me 15-17L depending on traffic and conditions, this using a 3.7L Magnum V6. This vehicle came standard with Driver/Passenger/Curtain Airbags, as well as Chrysler's ESP and Electronic Roll Mitigation systems (explained below). I also like this vehicles new Tip Start feature that prevents double starts, just turn the key, let it touch the start zone and let go, the vehicle will continue the starting sequence for you. Also this vehicle came with 17" steel rims mounting P245/65R17 Goodyear Fortera tires, and has a 5th full size tire as a spare. There are plenty of other features this vehicle has that makes it stand out, I have listed some below. As for the durability and ruggedness of this vehicle, I have to say I am impressed with how it holds up. It handles what you throw at it and more. Definitely will be looking at this vehicle again in the future.Jun 12, 2008

Just bought a new 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. I love it! The engine performance is intoxicating. The engine note is incredible and the seats are the most comfortable I've experienced in a car under $100K. This is one very powerful and fun vehicle. Enjoy!Apr 06, 2007
