This car would be great for a student or someone who needs a dependable car to drive to work. It's not bad for an older car. It has perks like a moonroof and good gas mileage. The bodywork isn't perfect, few dings but it still looks great. Nov 24, 2011

It has been a great car. I just hit 200k miles and it is still running great. Average gas mileage is about 28mpg. Inexpensive to own and maintain. It is by no means a sports car but with the manual transmission it is still somewhat fun to drive.Apr 25, 2011

Anybody that knows honda vehicles knows this car is one of the best cars made. From the factory it comes extremely under powered but a simple drop in, bolt in motor swap makes it a very fun car to have.Dec 24, 2010

Lots of acceleration and power, easily walked on a 5.0 Mustang Fastback, never needed repairs, Handling was best ive ever driven, once took it 130 around a slight curve heading to eastern washington speedo topped out and felt like I could go faster and still take the corner. Gas mileage was amazing, it was purple but it was sick, had 2000 si wheels and jdm amber corner lights & window visors. car was really fun to driveApr 02, 2010

Engine Bay - D16Z6 Motor SOHC V-TEC - Minor bolt ons such as Custom Made Cold Air Intake, 4 to 1 DC Sport Exhaust Manifold, and Thermal Full Cat Back Exhaust system. Upgraded ignition system such as NGK iridium plugs, MSD Ignition clear distributor cap, rotor, and wires. Took off A/C and Power steering for more power. Suspension - Front tower strut bar, Rear upper and lower strut bars, C pillar strut bar, Tokico Blue front and rear Struts, Skunk2 Lowering Springs 2.5 drop and 460 lbs./in. in the front and 2.5 drop and 480 lbs./in. in the rear. Braking System - All wheel disc brake system, replaced Rotors, Pads, and calipers to brand new OEM spec ones. Tires and Wheels - 15x7 VSR five spoke rims wrapped with some 205/50/15 Nitto Neo Gen tires. Exterior - Mugen front lip, JDM amber corner lights, smoked tail lights. This was the car i had the most fun and experience in... If there was a lot more money involved it would perform like a monster on the track but unfortunately it was stolen and they blew the motor when i didnt have any money so i sold it for $1000 Very clean shell for a minnesota car, no rust and paint fade what so ever... so sad... i had to let it go for soo cheap....Sep 11, 2009

The Civic, as with all Honda's is renowned for it's reliability. Combine this with the (fairly) cheap cost of parts, cheap insurance and the large availability of aftermarket modifications, and what you have here is a great car for those starting to drive, learn about or modify cars.Aug 26, 2009

It can be nice if you work on it. It gets good gas mileage. Plenty of aftermarket support. Cheap to buy, cheap to own. Insurance is cheap. Target of thieves and can be easily stolen though. Over all great car thoughAug 25, 2009

performance - has very bad torque and no low end power with 1.6 SOHC VTEC, handling is quite responsive, brake has been changed, so its good.
build - its a honda...its as good as a honda car
appearance - the reason i got the car in the 1st place, fell in love 1st time seeing at fast and furious. interior is average.
cost - very cheap to run and maintain
fun - mmm...if i have money to burn on new engine like F20C, hell it'll be one heck of a carAug 17, 2009

best think is curently as a citizen of PAk i must say 95 is best becoz of strong chasis u can put ny engine thats y most ppl instaled b16 turbo engines more than 2000 cc plus the fabulous appearance and u can make it the way u want to look ...another best thing is its road grip
its performance is awsome even till now after installing a b16 engine with a super charger its acceleration is more powerful than any other sports car. if we talk about grip and brakes so i must say its a car which gives u feel like the car is stick to the road.
moreover the reason behined calling it a ever classic car & a charming1 is because till today al the accessories of this car is availabe in the market. thats why the car gives the owner a prestige and the fun to drive...Jul 10, 2009

I built this car with a 1.8l Acura GSR engine and transmission, coilovers, wheels, brakes, etc. It was a DX trim level coupe that I added power door locks and upgraded seats to. It was fun to work on and fun to drive.Jul 06, 2009

Performance- good for a 1.6 liter but if you want more power go for the Si
Build Quality- Excellent my car is 15 years old but still is mechanically solid and burn no oil.
Appearance- I still think this is the best looking body style of all the Honda civics, and the interior is really pretty stylish
Cost of Ownership- Other that oil changes and other preventative maintenance I have had no major issues in my 3 years of ownership.
Fun Factor- Although this isn't a powerhouse it sits so low to the ground that when you through it around a bit it can be a lot of fun.Jun 01, 2009

a little ninja soldier :) a little ninja soldier :)
PERFORMANCE:
The 1.6L D16 4-cylinder V-Tec engine producing 125hp and 106 ft-lb smoothly propels the 2200lb car adequately at lower rpm. At higher rpm the V-Tec engages a sportier intake cam profile, and the acceleration becomes lively –the engine spins very well right up to redline. Throttle response is a tiny bit slow. Demanding traffic conditions will necessitate frequent downshifting, but that is a welcome task with the pleasant manual transmission, although the clutch travel feels a little long. Braking is secure and weighted well, though attention needs to be paid to overheat because the discs are only in the front (drums in the rear).
The car handles very well and is fun to drive. With a taut suspension setting, body lean is relatively contained through corners with good grip and the ride is moderate, though road imperfections feel harsher as the car ages. Steering is weighted well, with decent feedback. Emergency handling can be a bit tricky at limits or in slippery conditions because it’s a nose-heavy front-wheel-drive car, but is predictable enough to be controlled. Body rigidity could be better.
There is abundant aftermarket support for this car. It sits right on the line between the compact economy and sporty segments, but will not to be mistaken for a performance car unless a few key items are modified: the engine (a B-series swap is popular), body rigidity, and transmission are highest priorities.
COST/SAFETY /AESTHETICS/UTILITY:
Overall the car is very reliable, but excessive aggressive driving will demand a price. At 196,000 miles major repairs were: timing belt, alternator, water pump, radiator, and a suspension arm boot. There was a small unidentified oil leak onto the center exhaust pipe at the time I lost this car. Routine oil changes and occasional tune-ups were also performed. Maintenance costs should be relatively low due to an abundance of parts for these cars. Body integrity is very good. The body panels and chassis soaked up very well all the dings and hits from learning to drive :]. Fuel economy ranged between 31 and 44 mpg, depending on how it was driven. Normal driving in a rural area returned a very good 36 mpg consistently. Maneuverability is excellent, with a very tight turning radius.
I lost this car to a lady who rear-ended me in a SUV at a highway entry ramp. My car was knocked quite a distance, but rear-seat occupants would have been fine (maybe some whiplash) from this 4000lb impact to the rear at about 40mph. Only front and passenger airbags are available as far as I know. Because of this and the relatively low and narrow profile of the car, crash safety ratings are fair/average.
Many people like the simple look of the car, and I think both the interior and exterior designs were ahead of other vehicles of its time. The window waistline could be a bit higher by today’s design trends. The instruments and controls are laid out thoughtfully. The coupe has less versatility than the sedan, but more than the hatchback.
The compact and narrow dimensions of the coupe result in limited interior room and a rather cozy ride with your occupants. Taller (> ~5’7”) or heftier (>~170lb) people will only fit in the front seats while compromising rear seat room. Front seats are shaped rather uncomfortably, with the upper back contoured back too much. the cabin is a bit noisy, with pronounced wind and tire noise.
Overall this is a pleasant car that is fun to drive, with very good gas mileage with looks about as much as it performs (both moderate). If you’re a medium to smaller person who wants a reliable fun, economical everyday car on a budget and don’t mind limited utility, this car is right for you.

The accelleration is pretty good considering it's only a 4 cylinder 1.6 liter engine. It get reasonable gas milage as long as you don't drive it to hard in the 30's. I think the 93 Civic is the sportiest looking one too, not a big fan of the new Civics looks. Also its a Honda so you can't go wrong.Dec 17, 2008

I love hondas, they all have strong engines and they can go forever. The acceleration is great, it shifts good too. It has a short ram intake and a full exahust on it as well. It gets good gas milage about 30mpgs. Its a fun little car to drive. Its easy to modify of course becasue its a honda. Theres a big market for street racers too, every one is different too. Fun car to own and drive. pretty quick car for what it is. would rather have a manual, but the automatic is geared pretty well. handles well in fast corners. very low cost of ownership. even when gas was $4.00 a gallon i was still payin less than forty dollars to fill the tank and can get 300+ miles out of about 9 gallons. i really like the way my car looks, especially lowered 2 inches. the interior is nice, except for the patterns on the seats. overall a great car to own. would highly recommend it. good engine. has cat-back exauhst and a short ram intake from AEM. has a R-33 kit on it and has low pro tires on 17' rims. has some rust on the outside and a dent on the back right panel. on the inside has a Tenzo-R racing bucket and has some aftermarket speakers, nothing to great but just enough for some umph. VERY fun to drive.Jul 19, 2008

Never had a car that ran better than this one. I've had it for 4 years total, 3 1/2 years and 38k miles boosting 9psi on the stock D16z6, and never had an issue. Only routine maintenance.Jul 01, 2008

I would go into the reliability factor of the car and the good gas mileage, but seeing as how those are already the top things you expect from a Civic it seems like it would be a waste of time.
What I can say though is that it is also a very comfortable and roomy car (for its size) that has proven itself on many long-distance drives.
It's also a fairly decent crap hauler for it's size. It's certainly no truck, but it is in that class of small cars I like to call "compact sports trucks", sedans and coupes that have exceptional hauling capacity for their class. Once again, this has been put to the test as I've used it to haul small furniture and it served as a moving van once.
It's also a very nice car to drive, as the acceleration, breaking, and handling are all very responsive and make a car that's speedy and fun to drive on the open road and easy to to maneuver in heavy traffic or mountain roads.
While I originally wanted to rank the performance one notch away from "Amazing" because I have driven cars with better performance, I felt the Civic also deserves extra credit for how well it handles driving in harsh weather conditions. I've taken it through things that any sane person would know you do not attempt to drive a car through, particularly nasty blizzards, and it handles fine for the most part.
And the car is starting to have a few issues as of late, but I still rated it solid reliability because even at 14 years old all the problems it's having are just minor maintenance issues. And considering the abuse that thing has taken, I'm amazed that it still has yet to require anything major.
And when I rate the appearance low that is speaking of my specific car, because it has many scratches and dents on it from heavy abuse.
The only real downsides to the car are it's size and that it's a 2-door, both of which aren't even really flaws with the car so much as they are things I personally should've thought about more when I got the car.Apr 23, 2008

i have owned one for around 5 years and will never get rid of it, ever. It comes with a 1.5 litre d15b non vtec engine producing a rather lame 110bhp but with a long tract air filter and a cat back exhaust system you dont really care as your ears melt with the sound. I have done 130 thousand miles around 70-80 thousand of them have been pure abuse with poor maintainance and the engine has only just started to complain i am not proud of it but it shows how well built they are. the interior comes with a sea of grey and black plastic but can all be easily removed to be painted if you feel it is required. the seats are unsupportive if you are driving hard but they are very comfortable. The handling is good on stock suspension, they are quite stiff as standard and you dont get much body roll when cornering hard, the chassis is very good for a front wheel drive car with no scary habits, when you push it too much into a corner you get understeer to tell you that you are being an idiot but not so much that you end up in a hedge, its very controllable when on the edge and inspires your confidence, if you crash one then you dont know the car very well.Apr 04, 2008

I put many miles on her and she never complained. Drove from Waco
to Austin then back to Waco every day. No speed demon but great on
gas. Handling was kinda so so, not recommend for high speed
maneuvers with out new suspension. Very reliable easy to maintain.
Also very strong able to withstand collision with out totaling car. Feb 11, 2008
