Fun to drive, excellent gas mileage, surprising acceleration and handling great until one person driving a ford f-250 went to sleep at the wheel and crossed over lanes and continued off the road and ran over it with me as I pulled in the ditch to avoid him...Apr 11, 2013

i dont like how hard it is to find performance parts, im trying to rebuilt mine into a road king speed machine so this kind of sucks for me.
other than that i really love this car . acceleration isnt bad unless you have alot of big people in the car. its a cozy little car, doesnt have blind spots( which is one of the main reasons that i like square bodied cars like this, it stays out of the shop it hasnt caused me any trouble, if you want fuel efficient and dont want a hybrid or electric car then buy a civic, they have always been good on fuel! if you are a good driver this car is pretty safe. i wouldt recommend for people who just cant drive, it has no power steering no abs breaks and no traction controlls like newer cars so if you lose traction on wet or icey roads you better know what you are doing lol. i hydroplane on wet/icey roads all the time but my passengers never notice because, 1 im a pretty good driver and 2, the car handles really really good!Oct 20, 2012

During the early '90s, Honda was preparing to release a car that would change the world. It boasted futuristic styling, ahead-of-its time engineering, and the latest in performance technology. That car was the NSX.
But they also made the Civic Wagon. The Wagon (or Shuttle, as it's known as in Japan and Europe; or also "Wagovan") was a five-door variant of Honda's iconic Civic. It was produced during the third and fourth generations of Civic, but was afterward discontinued.
The 1988-1991 Civic Wagon (Chassis code EE2) is certainly a funny-looking car. Due to its tall greenhouse and short wheelbase, it has almost cartoonish proportions, which gives it a whimsical charm. The dramatically sloped hood and tall windows give it an unusual profile, but give it extreme visibility.
The interior of the car is what you would expect from an early '90s econobox; made of sturdy but bland plastic arranged in simple, sensible shapes. The seats are not particularly pleasant, but serve their purpose well. The tall hatch offers plenty of cargo space on its own, but the rear seats can collapse for even more storage room. I can confirm that a full-size adult bicycle will lay flat with plenty of room to stack things on top of or below it.
The car was not designed to be a performance car. The only sporty feature it has is the stock EF generation suspension, apparently the stiffest stock suspension ever used in a Civic. The ride is akin to driving a go-kart- it handles well at high and low speed, but is not particularly comfortable.
The D15B2 (the RT4WD cars had the larger D16A6) engine produces only 92 horsepower. While this would be unacceptable on a larger car, the Wagon only weighs about 2300lbs, making the meager output more substantial. It does have some of the shortcomings of low power, however. The car will jump through 0-30 quickly, but acceleration to highway speeds is a harrowing ordeal. My car is equipped with the four-speed automatic transmission, which shifts (concerningly) hard out of first.
The maintenance on the car is cheap; Civic parts are readily available and it functions very well for a 22-year-old car. Even with the automatic transmission the Wagon acheives about 28 mpg city, and upwards of 30 mpg highway.
The car is holding up well for its age, but unless you really want the Wagon, go for a Civic hatchback. It's slightly lighter and body panels will be more plentiful.Aug 13, 2012

I love my 91 Civic Hatch. It's quick, has some pull for a stock ZC motor,
rated at 130hp. The car was built well, but lots of repairs have been
needed but its been worth it. Handles like a dream, shifts smooth, great
gas mileage and the car looks great besides the hood. would recommend
this to anyone who loves hondas, EF hatches FTWMay 27, 2012

2. We got 250'000 miles out of it before she finally crapped out from 180'000 miles of hard driving only replaced clutches, and timing belt and of course normal wear
3.looked great for a 91 Honda
4.Got about 50MPG, cheap cheap maintainence
5.It was fun to drive the Rice RunnerMar 12, 2011

The 1990 civic standard has adequate power from its 1.5L 70 HP SOHC
I4. The Gearbox is pretty smooth and shifts easily, with a solid clutch
pedal that has the right amount of resistance. There are times i wish
there was a 5th gear particularly on highways. The handling is good
with independent rear suspension providing a connected and fun
driving experience. The car is not very fuel hungry as living in the city i
managed 33mpg average with some highway driveway. While the Civic's
styling isn't amazing it is functional with everything being easy to find
and
comfortable to reach from the driving position. The build quality is very
good as even after 20 years of neglect the interior is in fair shape and
the engine just needed a tune up.Dec 01, 2010

Runs amazingly, accelerates really well for 92 stock horespower. With upgraded power will need to come performance brakes. Needs sway bars if more powers to be added. Interior of car is grey vinyl, very hard to get dirty. Exterior is in perfect condition, no rust/rot. Car has 16" Enkei racing wheels.Oct 16, 2010

ok, its old and has some rust cause its 20 years old. but its a Honda.
its has slow acceleration but once its going fast it stays going fast! but going fast means nothing if you cant stop. the brakes are good but fade a bit if you work them hard.
ive upgraded the suspension, and restored it to like new as well as adding a rear sway bar.
this car is easy to maintain cause its a civic. this one burns oil but still gets near 30 MPG.
this car is wicked fun to drive!! especially after putting the rear sway bar in.Aug 19, 2010

I bought this car in 2008 mostly for the gas mileage, and im glad i did. it has saved me much money on gas. it gets about 36 mpg on the highway with my ave speed of 75-80, i think that is good, considering the hills and high winds of Wyoming. in the cold winters with -20F temps, it all ways started and drove fine. it has 162,000 miles on it. no oil leaks or any other fluid leaks. the only repair i did was change the timing belt. it was still working fine, but its recommended to change them every 50,000 miles or so, before they slip so not to damage the engine. with the 4 speed ato trans, its not much power from the 1.5 sohc, but for the most part it holds its speed fine. great run around car, low maintenance, with good mpg, and they run for a long time if you keep up on maintenance. well as a base car, the 1990 honda civic was always a low performance economy car. the build quality, as always from honda, is top notch. the appearance, although typical '90s box styling, is still instantly recognizable. ownership and maintanence costs as with most hondas is low. the most fun thing about this car is the handling characteristics, also with a little time and money, you can make this one sporty, quick, and fun to drive cars.Sep 11, 2009

This car gets me from point A to point B only. It has great fuel economy. Built with quility matarials of its time unlike new plastic cars its tough and resisted its test against time. I drive it like a maniac and the overall weight of the car makes it fun to take on twisty roads.Jul 15, 2009

These cars a good in stock condition. But with a twin cam 1.8, stiffer suspension, sticker tires and four wheel disk brakes they are great. Quick, fun and amazing handling with few modifications, while still being decent on gas. My 89 civic hatch has held its own against brand new cars costing 10 times what I paid for it.Jul 02, 2009

I bought this car for $500. It is the second of its kind that i have owned and is very good on gas, easy to work on, and there is no end of easily available aftermarket options and upgrades. Very fun to drive once you know the car, there are a few things to get used to like any older vehicle; no power steering or AC, a few rattles, etc. The performance is alright but not amazing, it handles fairly well but will perform much better once i have done some optional work.Oct 20, 2008

I bought this car with about a 152k on it. It had a lot of new O.E.M. parts on the engine (timing belt, water pump, alternator, starter, a/c compressor). I have added a ram air intake, custom exaust (complete), short shift, 17" Koing rims, Eibach racing springs, Front A-arms with adjustable ball joints, Wicked rear camber kits. I have a t3/t4 turbo going on it soon. Just need to find the time to rebuild the engine. My friend who owned it before me made a custom rear wing. This car is fun to drive. It is a 5-speed and very quick for the 1.5L engine. I took it to the track and it ran the quarter in the high 17's. I plan to get it in the high 14's with the turbo. The best thing I like about it is the gas milage I get, about 31-35 m.p.g.. Fun and economic all in one. Gotta love Honda!Jul 15, 2008

Fun to drive as a 4spd manual, handles tight around turns, starts every time the key is turned regardless of weather or temperature. Gas mileage is fantastic, between 35-41 mpg with mixed highway/city driving. The manufacturer's specs called for 35 mpg only highway! With only about 80hp after my tinkering, it's still a tad underpowered, but better than the factory 70hp. Bought it from my friend at 198500 miles two years ago, has about 225750 on it now. I'm sure I could rack up 100k more on it as long as I take care of it. Classic old school Honda reliability at it's best! Jun 30, 2008

The 4th generation Honda Civic is a very popular car, even though it´s over 20 years old.
One of the main reasons for it´s popularity may be that it has the exaxt same chassis and suspension as the newer Civics. The ED, EF, EG and EK basically share 99% of the same components when it comes to suspension.
The 4th Gen (ED for the european and american market cars, and EF for japanese domestic market cars + all the VTEC models) is by far the lightest of the bunch, so when given modern day suspension and brake components it´s a very nicely handling carMar 20, 2008

The first 4-door sedan Civic (I'm mostly sure) and it drives almost exactly like the CRX, but with 4-doors and seats 4.5 people with a trunk. Even better, in 1991, the first Civic EX was sold (very limited numbers) and the only Honda of the same era to match its fun was the CRX Si.Mar 09, 2008

I think that if the car is maintained with regular oil changes and a tune up and a good battery it'll be reliable! Mine needs some minor work done to it but I think I can pull another 100,000 miles out of it. I have to give it to Honda they make a good car!Sep 14, 2007
