As a teen in the 90's, I fell in love with sports sedans (I don't know why). Saw the SHO brand-new as a kid and had to get one as soon as I finished college. I found a red, five-speed manual with about 70K on the odometer. I put another 72K on it and sold it to help defray the cost of an engagement ring. This car was fun. Great, great engine. Nice intake sounds, wonderful engine to look at. ***More to follow***Apr 03, 2015

I like that I can put my family in the car and no that we are going to make it to are destination and back. Real easy to drive, with a sporty feet to it. Very fun to drive.
My favorite feature is the sunroof, love it open on a nice warm evening.Mar 28, 2015

I got this for $1600/ 101,000 miles. I had to clean the power window switch contacts to get all but the driver's side window to work. Replaced some suspension items. Otherwise car in good shape. Black leather interior is perfect shape. (Love the leather covered steering wheel, as perfect shape as it was when new.) Had been owned by a PA State Trooper who serviced it well (with records). All the broken stuff (mediocre Ford parts at the time) had been repaired by the dealer before I got it. 111,000 miles on it now. One concern. The expensive (lots of labor time) 60,000 engine service had not been done. I'll have to come up with the money or learn how to do it myself. All in all, I LOVE this car. Did I mention it is fast?Jan 16, 2014

Before the 1993 Taurus, I'd had 2 1988 Taurus', one 1986 Taurus and a 1988 Mercury Sable. The '93 was by far my favorite! Smooth, comfortable and so much fun to drive. It handled fabulous in any weather and looked great!Feb 03, 2012

Acceleraton was good for the type of car and size of engine 3.0L V6, braking was
good disk breaks all around for that year. Handled well.
It was built solid, with one issue trans gaskets wear after two years.
The appearance was better that the previous generation. As you can see in my
pic, I didn't like it looking like others.
I loved driving this jokerNov 14, 2011

This is a FWD 60 degree, 24 valve, yamaha built, DHC 3.2 liter V6 mated w/ an AXODE automatic VU Automotive installed in the fall of 2010. stock hp 220hp/220tq qt mile 15.1 S.H.O. or Super High Output is a system the car uses to control 6 of the 12 intake runners control by vaccum opperated throttle bodies providing optimal hp and tq at both low and high rpmsApr 29, 2011

What a good idea it was to put a Yamaha SHO motor in a Taurus. It really woke up the car to what it should be. Different headlights, bumpers, side skirts, the regular Taurus really looks bad. Yes cost of ownership is a bit high, and motor parts are expensive and sometimes rare to find, but it is a blast to drive, especially when the secondaries kick in!Nov 03, 2010

It was very unpleasant to drive. Perhaps the worst car I have ever driven. Lots of mechanical problems. It shook if you took it over 60mph. Was slow as a brick and could barely make it up any hills. Thank god it wasn't mine and that I drove it only a few times. Jan 31, 2010

this car is very quick with a beefed up 3.2L v6. a little sluggish in handling but it will make up for it in the straight away. the car came stock with a premium 7 speaker sound system that sounded amazing. leather interior and power everything including heated seats and sun roof. climate control and this car was very fun to driveSep 28, 2009

That car was the best ever! Looked like the average "mom" car, however, it had the stuff! 5-speed, all the bells and whistles! It would flat get up and move...never any issue to get up to speed(ing) on the ramps. Even though it was a sedan, my teenaged boys liked to drive it.Oct 25, 2008

This car's great, maybe it's not the best on gas with it's V6 Yamaha SHO engine, but it can win you just about any drag you enter. Strong handling, great factory sound kit and power windows, locks and sunroof, it's one of the rarest and best production cars to come out of 1995Aug 29, 2008

this car is the bomb. even though its 13 years old, and only has 220 hp, 200 ft-lbs, itll hold its own against many brand new cars. this car can hit 60 in around 6.5 seconds. not bad for a front-wheel-drive car with this low of power.
the car is roomy, comfortable, and fast. the engine is superb. the 3.0L V6 was a collaboration between Ford and Yamaha. with its 7400rpm redline and butterfly intake that actuates at 4000rpm, the car is extremely quick. though its naturally aspirated, it pulls like some turbocharged vehicles ive seen.
my SHO also has a $1300 Quaife limited slip differential. this differential puts it ahead of many other front-wheel-drive vehicles... even other SHOs. this differential allows my car to launch well, and even continue to apply power to the pavement through curves.
i love this car, and would buy another in a heartbeat.Aug 07, 2008

Fastest, most fun car I've owned to date. With just under 300 hp it's one of the fastest SHO's in the US. Problem is it had a stage three 30k clutch with 37k on it. Sucks that it blew and waiting on the new one but you'll all hear it before you see it when it's up and running.Aug 07, 2008

Ford took an otherwise boring run of the mill Taurus and decided to drop in the 3.0L Yamaha built V6 that they had contracted Yamaha to built. They mated it to a Mazda built 5 speed transaxle (more 93-95 cars however had a Ford automatic) which provided positive, solid shifts, although not nearly as smooth as a Honda or BMW. A huge amount of work was done to the suspension tuning, making it stiffer, adding bigger anti-roll bars, and doing everything possible to dial back torque steer. Along with the minor exterior changes, front facia, rear bumper, small trunk mounted spoiler, alittle body clading and 16" wheels (up from the base Taurus's 15's) the interior was upgraded with leather seating and sunroofs on some cars, a standard auto climate control, and an optional JBL audio system. The car tracks straight on the highway, and can hold its own on back roads, as long as maintenance is is kept up on the suspension. Steering feel is good and torque steer is very controllable, only showing itself in first gear on bumpy or wet roads. For most of the earlier SHO's brakes were a weak point. They were just alittle unndersized, never lacking in stopping power, but if subjected to alot of highspeed braking, or track use were easily warped after a few 5 or 10 thousand miles. The 220hp Yamaha however is a unique engine that makes you crave flooring it to listen and feel the secondary intake runners open above 4k rpm. Its raw power delivery is unlike any family sedan of today and you'll surprise many people when they look under the hood. This was one of Ford's best cars of the early 90's, when they were thriving and not afraid to try something alittle different.Mar 27, 2008

Pretty powerful 6 cylinder engine, comfortable ride, great handling except for the poor turning radius that comes with most Fords. Mar 26, 2008

This car was a blast! With a 3.0 Liter V6 designed by Yamaha and a matching 5 speed transaxle, this car really had some go for a luxury sedan. Feb 14, 2008

The SHO combined all the luxuries available at the time with far above average power and handling performance. A joy to drive and a reliable ride. I've had mine since 1997 and the odometer currently sits around 270,000 KMFeb 04, 2008

I love this car so much and ppl call me crazy. this is the best body of the 3 SHO generations. This car has A 3.0L DOHC Yamaha engine with 220HP and 200 foot pounds. The car also came with a 3.2L but that was for the automatics and the autos had its share of problems. This car can do 140+ from factory and get 28mpg on the highway(i can personally vouch for both of these). Its bigger than the mustang but as long as the mustang isn't a cobra or have a H/O 5.0 this car will toast them.Feb 02, 2008

I bought this car from my stepdad as a decent ride to take me 1,000 miles to Wyoming. It did the job, and then some. 12,000 miles on one oil change isn't anything to laugh at. Jan 09, 2008
