Personally, Im a Mopar enthusiasts, but there are some things to view closely with the 2002. The 4.7 engine is very durable. Annual tune-up and oil changes with a high-mileage heavy weight oil and they wont let you down. The problem with them is the A/C condensers go bad and the transmission speed sensors (input/out) tend to get oil soaked and burn out.Feb 03, 2022

I loved everything about this vehicle. It was great for having 3 kids and toting them to school and appointments. We went from a small Saturn 2 door vehicle to this SUV and it was definitely an upgrade for us.Jun 21, 2015

I've had this car in my family since we bought it brand new. It has been on numerous road trips and has accumulated over 199,000 miles in its 15 years. I use it as a daily driver and for camping trips and the occasional winter jaunt to Tahoe to ski and snowboard. All in all this car is fantastic and I would love to own another one along side my current one!Sep 25, 2014

Gas mileage not the greatest but vehicle has been a reliable mode of transportation for me for the time that I've had it. Just tuned it with spark plugs and coolant serviced. Tires are relatively new approximately 95% wear left.Jun 07, 2014

I have had this car for eight years now and cannot find anything I like as well to replace it with. The new Durangos just don't have the same look and feel as the older ones and other trucks are either much too big or look like stations wagons on steroids.Feb 04, 2014

Great versatile truck. Maintenance expenses only. No towing but had front hitch for snow plowing. Lots of room inside. 7 seater with tons of room with seats down. Good stereo and other power options. Superb ride quality with all season tires.Dec 13, 2013

Next to the H1, Defender and Cherokee this is one of the best off-road vehicles
made.
With minor upgrades this vehicle can get you in some serious trouble !
This is one of the last 4x4's that can be worked on by a shade tree mechanic. Oct 22, 2012

I bought my Durango new and I've had it ever since (11 years and 120K miles). I love the curvy fender style and the comfort of the interior space and seating. I have had to put some work into it over the years, mostly normal maintenance items (brakes, tranny, differentials, A/C recharge, etc). The main issues I have had are on the transmission. I had to get it replaced at about 60K miles and now at 120K miles, it is starting to slip again. It has been a really good vehicle for my family, holding lots of cargo and people as my kids have grown up and we've taken it on numerous tips to mountains, plains and deserts. It does great in the snow and has great power to make it over mountain passes or trails, with the 5.9L engine. I have been very happy with my Dodge, with the exception of the poor gas mileage. I get 13- 14 mpg in the city and 14 - 15.5 on the highway (not much difference). In general, I can recommend the Durango as a good general purpose SUV.
** UPDATE **
I bought a newer used car to be a daily driver. Now my daughter uses this truck. While she does not like that is has poor gas mileage and would prefer something smaller, she loves the 4x4 capabilities in the Colorado winter. She feels confident driving the Durango and goes on trips to the mountains with her sister and friends for snow boarding. It is still a solid vehicle and performs well with modest maintenance.Aug 17, 2012

Love my Durango! If I were not working 30 miles one way to work every day, I would keep my Durango as long as I could. It is such a quiet SUV to drive and the handling is excellent. Definately worth the money.Jan 20, 2012

My Jenny was a sexy piece of machinery with a beastly V8 that was strong and
reliable no matter what you did to it. Plenty of interior room, decent standard
features, and the 4WD was superb. Only downside? Gas mileage SUCKED. Feb 09, 2011

this thing does everything. its the weekend party wagon, fitting up to 7 people, but gets me to work in comfort. the stereo keeps you entertained and the R/T package its what makes this truck what it is. from towing 8000lbs to drifting in the snow, this truck does it all with ease. Dec 06, 2010

Absolutely wonderful truck/suv. great for whatever. You can carry/tow/pack a
bunch of stuff with and great build quality. Perfect especially if you take care of it.
Its been in family for going on 10 years and has 167000 almost 168000 miles. Not
much has needed fixing ever.Nov 08, 2010

This is my 2002 Durango. It has a 360ci engine and seats seven. Since
these pics have been taken I have added a few power adders like a k&n
pro charger kit, a magnaflow stainless cat back exhaust, and a jet
performance chip. The s.u.v. also has a rebuilt trans. built to diesel specs
and a mild shift kit. The gas mileage sucks, but the fun factor makes up
for that.Jun 04, 2010

This car is a good four wheel drive. It has lots of power and handles very well
for a for wheel drive. The braking could be better though. The Durango I have
has the 4.7 magnum in it. This suv has great build quality. I wrecked it not to
long ago and it hardly did any damage to my truck. It only messed up the
plastic pieces on the front end of the suv. This suv looks like an suv should. It
is not to fancy and has that mean look to it. the look like it is ready to take on
anything. The only major downside to this vehicle is the gas mileage. I only
get about 15 miles to the gallon. This suv is very fun to drive. It can withstand
everything and has never been stuck before. Even during a super bad ice
storm we had a couple years ago. There was around 10 - 12 inches of solid ice
and the Durango got through it fine.May 18, 2010

The car has given me very few problems over the years. The engine is so strong it impresses me. I can burn most cars out of the light. The paint has been scratched but it doesnt look bad. It is great fun to drive. I highly recommend it. Mar 10, 2010

I love my Durango. It has a V8 Magnum Engine. Very nice
acceleration. So far I haven't had to replace anything other
than a headlamp bulb. It does pretty decent on the gas
usage. Also wonderful for when I have the kids in the vehicle
they can be separated.Nov 15, 2009

Love this care more then anything, only wish it wasnt chili pepper red. Handles great for an SUV and the acceleration and top speed are both great. Holds plenty of people and is fun to drive. V8 engine baby. Love it.Nov 01, 2009

2001 Dodge Durango SLT / 360 (5.9L) - auto / 3.92 Ratio
The 360 small block is a great engine to work with and was put into Chrysler vehicles for 30 years. Can be beefed up quite a bit to put out 300+ horses with little effort.Oct 04, 2009

Passes everything but a gas station. (Bad mileage) Looks good though. Rediculously comfortable with the leather interior. Nice stereo system. Carries up to 7 passengers. All factory features are great. Compass, mileage readout, temp, etc. 4.7 liter Magnum V-8 uses up tires. Will spin all four tires in 4 wheel drive as well. Wicked.....Sep 25, 2009

solid vehicle that I have put to the test on the highway for travel, pulling small and large trailers, carrying a canoe on the roof and off roading. It does everything I need in a vehicle and will buy another one when i am readyJul 31, 2009

The thing flies...it weighs in at roughly 5,200lbs and
goes 0-60 in around 6 sec...QUICK...i love the way it
looks...well, looked...and the fact that it has the much
rarer, much better performing 5.9 liter magnum v8.
Also, it is a tank because of the sheer weight and it is
a large SUV.Jun 11, 2009

I Bought my Durango used, and although it was high maintenance at first to fix what the previous owner didn't take care of, This vehicle is the best overall vehicle I've ever owned. It is sure footed at all sane speeds, has more power than it needs, and will cruise at 70 miles an hour all day long. Keep oil and coolant right and I think it'll last forever. The 4.7 does not like engine Heat! The body style is one I've always liked, much more than the newer ones, and the fit, finish and design of the interior is outstanding. It should have disc brakes on the rear as well as the front, but although not the best, the equipment works very well with only normal maintenance. I have 82000 miles on this little gas ( 16-18 mpg)hog highway tank, and hope to put a lot more on it. Haven't had it in mud, but pushed snow with the front bumper while hunting up in Northern Vermont. I would highly reccommend this vehicle for any one who takes pride in owning a good vehicle, and doesn't mind a weekend here and there maintaining it.Apr 17, 2009

I LOVE my truck! I couldnt ask for anything better. It rides, well, handles well, and does great with anything I throw at it! I've added a few things to make it fit more my style, and still get decent gas mileage. 18-20 on the highway and about 13-16 around town.Jul 19, 2008

2000 Dodge Durango R/T with the 5.9 liter, 360 cubic inch V-8 is a rather impressive SUV. Gas mileage isn't its best quality, but for the power, speed, and performance that its powerplant produces...I won't complain.Jun 07, 2008

I have used it for everything from towing boats, to carrying around a bunch of my friends, its been on long trips, and its seen plenty of time off-road and on dirt roads. It handles and performs very well for an SUV. I've only had to make minor repairs which were probably the cause of my abuse than the reliability of the truck. She has 65k miles and still runs like new. The interior is nice, especially in the slt plus. all the controls are easy to use and in reach of the driver. I've yet to experience any major trouble with the transmission, but it definitly isn't at its best and Durangos are known for that. If you're in the market for a used SUV or need a vehicle to handle multiple tasks, i recommend a Durango.Mar 23, 2008
