I had the opportunity to own one of these for a few months and it was a 10/10 experience. This car possesses an engine that nowadays is only seen in the Porsche 911 GT3, this 4.0L V8 will always put a smile on your face. I daily drove an E93 for a few months and it was a great experience. It offers a great bang for buck performance option that if you are skilled with working on BMWs can be a fantastic performance car. The seats are comfortable, the DCT is snappy and responsive and I would personally take it over the manual ( I have driven multiple manuals). The exterior design is functional, refined and modest compared to its contemporary counterpart. The handling is greatly improved over the E46 Convertibles and outside of track use, the handling difference would be hardly noticeable compared to the E92. This is not a car you own if you care about fuel economy or neglecting maintenance. If you daily drive, you will be filling up twice a week. This is not a car where you can skip maintenance, as it will become costly. If you are not a technician then expect to pay more in maintenance, especially for rod bearings. If you are not doing the repairs yourself, I would budget 5000 for annual maintenance and take it to a reputable independent BMW shop. My recommendation when looking at these cars is finding one with good recent service history. Most of the issues with these cars are over exaggerated and can be overwhelming to think about when looking but if you find the right car with the right history you will be smiling all the way to 8500 rpms. I have owned a 2011 E92 M3 Competition Package for just shy of 5 years. This car has been nothing shy of a dream come true and I fully understand why they are becoming more and more sought after. 2011 was the first Life Cycle Impulse (LCI) year for the E9X M3 Coupe, and the first year that the Competition Package was offered. You cant go wrong with any year from 2008 - 2013, but 2011+ is typically deemed the most desirable with the various changes that were made for LCI that make it feel a little less dated. Whether you are a fan of the engaging 6-speed manual, or the very fast and sporty Dual Clutch, you are making the right choice either way. The options that were offered on this generation M3 made it very bespoke and its rare to find a car with the same exact specifications - this makes it that much more special to own. The driving experience is like none other. The high-revving 4.0L naturally-aspirated V8 is addicting. Even though this platform cant compete with cars that are being produced today in terms of speed & acceleration, the pure driving feel is enough to put power & torque on the sidelines and just enjoy driving the car. Even after 5 years of ownership, I have never been able to push the car to its limit, but a competent driver is always right on the edge of too far. The current generation M3s have too much power where you really cant use nearly all of it safely. The E9X M3 chassis was truly the perfect just the right amount to enjoy on the edge, but never feel unsafe doing so. I cant say enough good things about this car, and everyone who has owned a well taken care of example (hint hint) knows that you dont just own one of these cars, you are a caretaker of what I absolutely consider the best generation M3 ever built.Jun 12, 2024

For me, this is one of those instances that I refused to let the opinions of others deter me from my own instincts. This is the driving experience I wanted. This is the look, feel & audio note I wanted. It’s not the fastest car I’ve ever driven but I can make it much faster if I choose. The feel of speed is so subjective anyway. It’s my own perception & experience I put out front, and all of those itches were scratched. Aug 26, 2020

One word. Visceral. The engine in this car, the S65 V-8, will keep you coming back for more and more day after day. The journey to redline (in my car 8600 RPM) is unlike any other road car Ive driven. Above 6000 RPM the intake noise and steadily increasing ferocity of acceleration will leave you breathless and a bit scared. Like pistons are going to shoot out of the block if you dont stop! Are there faster cars out there with press you in the seat torque? Absolutely. None of those vehicles will hold your attention for month after month, year after year like the E9X M3 will.
Points to note:
- Mine is a 2008 M3 6MT. I have had it 2.5 years, put 11K miles on it and put about $2700 into repairs.- it is amazingly satisfying to drive on back roads and open highways. Handling is predictable, neutral and rewarding. Braking is instantaneous and adequate. Intake sounds remind me every, single time why I bought it.
- In my humble opinion, this car does exactly what is was intended to do and nothing more. Dont believe the hype or criticisms and do your own research (and driving). You may hate it, you may love it.
- My recommended options: Get M-drive - it permits driver adjustment of steering speed, throttle response, suspension setting and stability control. If you like music, get one with the individual audio system. It generally lacks low-end response, but mid and highs are clear enough for my amateur ears as well the sound-stage and imaging make me happy.
- Get the Dual Clutch (DCT) if you plan to track it, otherwise the 6MT is the way to go for daily driving.Mar 29, 2015

This baby was one of my favorites of all time. I can't even begin to explain how fun this car is to drive. It fast and beautiful and sounds like a mean machine. It handles so well...rear wheel drive allows for spinning out, but then it corrects and corners like it's on rails. I would recommend this car to anyone.Mar 24, 2015

Love everything about this car. excellent daily driver or weekend car. trunk space is excellent for a coupe and the fact that the rear seats fold is very useful for food shopping or any luggage. Overall, the car is beautiful and performs very well. excellent car for long trips, the track or as a small family car that gets a lot of attention. Feb 01, 2015

You'll have a blast driving a convertible BMW M3, there is really no experience like having the top down and rocketing down your favorite twisty road. Everything from fit and finish to the mechanical parts is just uber engineered and amazing.Oct 22, 2014

One of the benchmarks of modern cars, and one of the last naturally aspirated V-8's out there, the E92 M3 is a classic that you should've driven at least once in your life. It's engine screams when you floor it.Apr 26, 2014

I like almost everything about this car. The manual transmission mixed with excellent power and handling make it the perfect mid-size performance vehicle. It is very daily driver friendly, unlike the more adggressive sports cars i have owned, Vipers, Corvettes, Porsches and Ferraris.Aug 09, 2013

Fully loaded rocket hard top convertible, dynamic damper control (extra), M Double Clutch Transmission, comfort access keyless entry, BMW Apps, enhanced premium sound, low mileage, heated seats, tire and wheel package (replacement), garage parked--engine growl will bring joy to any car buff's heart. 3rd and 4th child arrived since buying and no longer practical for this convertible loving family. The BMW M3 is in a league of its own, this car is the fastest luxury sports car with 4 seats and comfort. It has all types of gadgets Blue Tooth, and it drives like a champ. I would recommend this car to any friend. Mar 16, 2012

Overall awesome car.. A little low on torque, due to the naturally-aspirated, high-
revving nature of the V8. All service has been free, but she eats through tires.
Slight roof rattles when top is up, amazing Novilla leather on seats and door
panels, carbon-leather trim is neat. 6-Speed Stick, perfect clutch. M mode is set to
stiffen the shocks and steering, and provide greater throttle response. Suspension
in comfort mode is supple and luxurious through town. Car looks aggressive, yet
understated, and enthusiasts always call out in love and/or jealousy.Nov 12, 2011

M3 POWERFUL MACHINE - wordless....the best I´ve ever driven. Safe. I love the engine "noise",freedom, powerful. The power botton is awesome, i love to watch through my mirror and see how fast the cars in my back become smalller and smaller. AMAZING!!! and faster than the other one (M3 2006). Much better the manual transmission, was hard to find, but I did it.INSIDE IS A BEAUTY!!

Ultimate driving machine for track and daily driving, is exhilarating to drive on the Autobahn and on the Nurburgring. The performance and handling is superb and the 'M' button is handy with preset settings and with a press of that button the car really opens up. Great car BMW had developed. Jul 29, 2009

Every single detail of this car is flatout unbelievable.
The interior design is epic especially the red leather
that I got. The Jet Black color makes the car look so
sleek and quite honestly badass. The quality of car is
just amazing.Jul 27, 2009

2008 M3 is the first M3 to use a V8 engine; previous M3s had 4 or 6 cylinders. The engine and I'm only going into detail is a 4.0 liter V8 that revs to 8,400 RPM and puts out 414 horsepower and 295 Lb-ft of torque.
It's still very fast, practical and well built.

Best all around car hands down. Its comfortable, fast, fun, easy to slide sideways, has great curb appeal and all the amenities. It has a real, usable back seat and a decent trunk. All the maintenance is included by BMW which makes this a real life super car that almost any person can own.Jul 22, 2008
