It's a GREAT car. I'd recommend buying one. The engine is amazing with the 4.4 liter V8. It helps to have a good job if you need to replace things, but when you do i'd recommend looking online for cheaper parts cause will find them over going to the dealership. The Build quality is great it's GERMAN! The looks of it are classic and inbodys the German fabricating at the time. When I was looking this car up before I bought it, most of the web sites i used said it would average about 14mpg, but that seems really hard to do to get gas millage that low. I average right around 18mpg. It's a very fun car to drive even being a a massive car, once you get going you can't even tell that it is.I love my car and I love BMWs. and they love me.May 17, 2013

Bought my 01" 740i Sport 2 years ago with 98K miles on it. I had the transmission fluid changed (450$ EEK), Spark Plugs, Belts, Coolant, you name it. Since then,..Have had no issues whatsoever! Car gets great highway mileage,..25 mpg or better if you keep it under 90mph. The car corners like a Vette, rides on the highway like a limo with the confidence of absolute control. The car still gets looks everywhere I go! I paid 13K$ out the door, invested $4K in preventative maintenance and I feel this beast will go at least another 150K miles. Interior seats are the most comfortable I've ever sat in. I do a 140 mile round trip daily and wouldn't consider driving anything else. With the economy the way it is,...What an outstanding value!!! The BMW 750Li, especially the 90s - 2001 model, was a fantastically built car, and a fantastically looking one as well. The car had an insane amount of grunt - you push the gas, and you're already there. It is, of course, a BMW, so repair parts are expensive, but then again, you wouldn't expect them to cost the same as a Chevrolet or Ford. You can pick one of these up for around $4K now, and it's still a very luxurious car.Oct 28, 2009

5.4 Liter V12 (330hp/350lb), decent performance for a 5500 lb car, braking is decent, handling is relevent to it's weight, but still nice. Quality is outstanding but repairs are costly regardless how minor. Appearance is still decent for a car of this age. Ownership cost is not bad but definitely not cheap, definitely recommend getting a warranty with the vehicle. Fun factor is awesome, seats five with a trunk the size of a Prius and still does 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds, not Trailblazer SS fast but still matches power with an abundant of luxury items. Hard to believe this vehicle sold for 100k when new but nice that depreciation put it at a level the common man can afford. Must have M series rims, otherwise it comes off as your grand daddy's Beemer. Power everything spoils you silly and the Sport option on the transmission (also linked to the suspension) creates a whole different vehicle during "spirited" driving conditions. I love this car as I did when I owned one in Germany. Limited to 155mph stateside but I personally know this vehicle will do well over 175mph tuned properly. May 14, 2009

Performance - acceleration - 0-100km in 6.5s brakes - so weak handling - very simple Build quality - first class Apperarance - exterior - black metalic,interior- cream coloured leather consumption- normal ride about 11 L, urban -18 L this car isnt for fun but for silent ride. Great performance machine. Its fast, handles well, so perfectly balanced, It is as solid as the day it was new. All the interior materials and exterior body and trim has held up extremely well. Its just a comfortable great driving safe solid car. I am hoping that the new 2009 7 series will be such a car. The '02 generation while a great driving car, was an electronic mess. Sep 05, 2008

Despite being a large car, it handles as well as a smaller five-series, and I get the same mileage (16-18 mpg) as a 530i I considered buying with the 3.0L V8. Has plenty of features: large trunk, massive back seat, and plenty of power. Highway mileage is good as well. I got around 29 MPG on the highway, and thanks to BMW active seat, I was able to drive ten hours without stopping, even with my bad back. The 4.4L V8 offers plenty of power, even for a heavy car such as this. The braking is acceptable. For handling, curves can be enjoyed at high speeds with little body roll. I've required one repair, when the radiator sprung a leak at the top. Repairs can be expensive, with my mechanic quoting radiator prices at upwards of 450 dollars. I found an OEM Behr radiator for 175, so with installation, it was still around the same as I paid for the replacement in my Ford F150. The car is heavy, and feels solid. The doors are quite weighty, and i've encountered no squeaks and rattles. On styling, i'm partial to this car because I prefer lines as compared to curves on autos. The interior's styling is comfortable and upscale, with BMW using the better rubberized dash and wood grain, as compared to many plastic-fantastic interiors on other cars. My well-maintained 740iL is a wonderfully fun car to drive, and i'm still in love with it, even after the honeymoon is over. Jul 22, 2008

Overall the car is fantastic. It has a 326HP V12 engine that's very subtle in normal driving, but isn't afraid to be opened up when put into Sports mode. The ride comfort is fantastic and is extremely stable. The ride quality is the best of any car, whether it's in normal or Sports driving mode. Body roll is virtually eliminated with the car's wonderful chassis and suspension. The car is infamous for its unreliability, which is definitely true. Unless you have the money to maintain the car, steer clear. Otherwise you will rarely be disappointed.May 19, 2008
