The Jeep Wagoneer S isn't quite ready for prime time.
As Jeep's first all-electric vehicle, the Wagoneer S is plagued by several fundamental missteps that are not just annoying but cause for genuine concern. It misses the mark by a noticeable margin when compared with rivals, even those that are relatively new on the scene.
Verdict: While we're glad Jeep is moving into the EV space, this is one to avoid for now.

With the exception of its seven-slotted grille, the Jeep Wagoneer S looks pretty much the same as any other SUV, and that's not such a bad thing. In fact, the generic design is a bonus if you don’t want an all-electric vehicle that advertises its power source through overtly futuristic or hyper-aerodynamic styling. That grille, along with the larger air intake below the front bumper, could have casual observers mistaking the Wagoneer S for a traditional SUV, were it not for the relatively silent powertrain. The illuminated light strip atop the grille adds a touch of modernity, but these accents are becoming more popular among all vehicles today. In this manner, the Wagoneer S might help more conservative shoppers make the leap from an internal-combustion SUV to an EV.
From the side, the Wagoneer S uses black side skirts and wheel arch covers to add some Jeep flavor, giving the impression it has a taller ride height and more extreme wheel articulation for all-terrain adventures. In reality, this is one of the few Jeep vehicles that is not intended for off-roading. Those side skirts also keep this midsize SUV from looking heavier or minivan-like.
Around the back, the Wagoneer S features two black spoilers for a slightly sportier appearance, but otherwise, the tapering roofline and taillights tend to blend in with the crowd. In some ways, it looks similar to something we'd see from Lexus, Toyota, or Chevrolet.
The interior is more tech-forward, but still doesn't scream, "I'm an electric vehicle." The cabin isn't all that different from a gas-powered luxury SUV, and takes some inspiration from the full-sized Jeep Wagoneer and similarly sized Grand Cherokee. Meanwhile, the twin touchscreens in the center of the dash and the digital instrument panel bring it more firmly into the current era. There's also an optional touchscreen for the front passenger that is camouflaged into the piano-black dash trim.
Material quality is comparable to that of an entry-level luxury vehicle, with hard plastics well hidden behind soft-touch surfaces. What exposed plastic there is has a cross-hatch pattern that adds some texture and visual interest, and we prefer it to the mass of reflective piano-black that's common in similar vehicles. The synthetic-leather seat upholstery is convincing to the eye and to the touch, although it doesn't breathe all that well in hot weather. Thankfully, ventilated seats are available with the optional Comfort Package. The rear seating area has the same materials, giving it an aesthetic advantage over other SUVs that substitute those elements with harder plastic in the back.
Overall, the Jeep Wagoneer S plays it safe with design, avoiding some of the more polarizing details that you get with many other electric SUVs.

The 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S is available in two forms: the Limited trim and the returning Launch Edition from its debut last year. Both models come with two electric motors—one for each axle for all-wheel-drive (AWD). Combined, they produce 500 horsepower and 624 pound-feet of torque in the Limited trim. The Launch Edition increases output to 600 hp and 617 lb-ft of torque, which can propel the Wagoneer S from zero to 60 mph in a very quick 3.5 seconds. The Limited is no slouch, either, and can accelerate to 60 mph just a few tenths of a second behind.
Either model delivers far more power than most drivers will ever desire, and in some cases, perhaps a bit too much. Executing a full-throttle launch from a stop gets the wheels spinning like a muscle car, with the accompanying tire squeal and an alarming amount of sliding, regardless of the surface you're driving on. New owners should approach aggressive acceleration with more caution than in other all-electric SUVs that don't suffer from this issue.
The acceleration woes don't end there, unfortunately. If you're the type of EV driver that prefers one-pedal driving you'll need to turn off the creep mode and, each time you restart the vehicle, you'll need to dig into the on-screen settings to select the highest brake regeneration level. In this setup, the accelerator pedal is also far too sensitive, resulting in harsh lurches off the line if you're not especially cautious. Even if you try to gently coax the vehicle into accelerating, there's a noticeable clunk and lurch that discourages one-pedal driving. It's slightly easier to decelerate smoothly, though there's still an inelegant grab of the brakes in the last few inches before a full stop. This is one of the fundamental traits that EVs need to get right, and the Wagoneer S misses it by a sizable margin.
The ride quality is also needlessly stiff, sending jolts through the cabin every time you drive over a bump or pothole. Seams in a concrete highway also become tiresome rather quickly, as the undulations can cause some uncomfortable oscillations that could be a trigger for motion sickness. The ride stiffness might contribute to the Wagoneer S' confidence in the curves, but we'd prefer a softer tuning in exchange.
A 100-kWh battery pack gives the Wagoneer S an estimated range of 294 miles on a full charge, though we're not convinced that figure is achievable in the real world. That said, even 270 miles should be enough for most drivers, but it falls below the expectations set by many other electric SUVs. DC fast charging is possible up to 203 kW, which should replenish the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 23 minutes. Towing capacity is limited to 3,400 pounds, and as with any electric vehicle, battery range will plummet with any type of trailer attached.

The front seats of the Wagoneer S provide plenty of space for larger drivers, and the adjustments should easily accommodate smaller frames. Outward visibility from the driver's seat is good, allowing for better situational awareness for cars, bikes, and pedestrians. The view out the rear window is narrowed by the smaller hatch glass, but that's typical for most SUVs today. On the plus side, there's an optional digital rearview mirror that gives you an unimpeded view if you prefer, or if the cargo area is packed to the roof. It lacks the depth perception you get from a traditional mirror, but comes in handy in many situations.
The rear seats can easily accommodate adult-sized passengers, with ample headroom and legroom. They sit a bit higher than the front seats to give occupants a good view out the windshield, though we noticed the thigh support is merely adequate. Taller folk may notice the lack of thigh support, but likely only on longer journeys. Colorful interior ambient lighting livens up an otherwise plain interior, while a large panoramic sunroof helps to make the cabin feel more open and airy.
Up front, there's a good amount of storage for your personal items. Moderately sized cupholders and door pockets are backed up by a deep center armrest bin, as well as a hidden compartment behind the climate control touchscreen between the dashboard and center console. The rear seats have smaller door pockets, but get their own USB-C charge ports, air vents, a center armrest, and a household power outlet.
Behind those seats, up to 30.6 cubic-feet of cargo can be stowed, which is in line with other midsize SUVs and should easily be enough for an extended road trip. A power liftgate is standard, while hands-free operation is available with the Comfort package. Underfloor storage is also fairly generous, but the sloping rear glass may limit the transport of some bulkier items.
Somewhat confusingly, the cargo cover that Jeep delivers with the Comfort package is one of the worst we've encountered. It's a flimsy mesh piece that attaches to the rear headrests with nylon straps, while rubberized anchors attempt to keep it in place near the rearmost roof pillar. It tends to get in the way when you're loading the trunk and further impedes access to the underfloor tray. It can fold up quickly, but is inferior to retracting covers or shades attached to the liftgate.
Under the hood, the Wagoneer S has one of the larger frunks we've come across. It can hold up to 3 cu-ft, which is much more than what you'd need for a charge cable. It's not very deep, though, making it too small for most shopping duties.

All Wagoneer S models come standard with a digital instrument panel, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a smaller touchscreen below it for climate controls. Also included are wireless versions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite radio, a wifi hotspot, and a nine-speaker Alpine audio system. Our test vehicle came equipped with the optional Comfort package that adds a 19-speaker McIntosh premium audio system, which is one of the few standouts. It impressed us with its powerful bass and clear highs, as well as a fun on-screen analog output meter with a nostalgic twist.
Outside of the audio upgrade, the Wagoneer S' infotainment system seems a bit out of date. The graphics aren't particularly modern, and some functions take a few seconds to register and activate. We also encountered a few technical glitches, where one of the settings screens would not respond to any changes. We didn't experience any issues with Apple CarPlay, which is why we preferred it to the native infotainment system. A wireless charging pad attached to the center armrest bin kept our devices topped off and secure.
Also included in the Comfort package is an additional 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen for the front passenger. This allows them to help with navigation duties or to play mobile DJ, along with the ability to watch streaming content or videos via an HDMI port behind the climate control panel. There's no concern that it will distract the driver because a privacy filter blocks the driver's view.
Voice controls are also included as standard, and can help with some basic functions. You simply touch the microphone button on the steering wheel and speak your command. It worked well for adjusting the climate controls and turning on the ventilated seats, though it took a few seconds for it to register and execute our requests.

As of Septmeber 2025, crash test results from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have not yet been published. We'll update this review with scores if they become available.
Standard advanced safety features include frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alerts, front and rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, a traffic sign reader, and a hands-free highway driving system that combines the cruise control and lane-keep assist.
Included in the optional Comfort package is a head-up display, but from the driver's point-of-view it's one of the smallest we've encountered. It takes up a tiny space in the windshield and displays only the speed, cruise control information, and very little else.
We experienced several issues with the advanced safety features, which had us remembering how glitchy some older systems were. The adaptive cruise control works well on a free-flowing highway, but when traffic slows the adaptive cruise control engages the brakes unusually early and with far too much force. It had us worried that vehicles following us would rear-end the Wagoneer S, which led us to avoid using it. Oddly enough, after that initial braking, it tapers off to a slow crawl before it comes to an abrupt stop. There were also numerous false alarms with alert chimes, but there were no visual indications in the instruments telling us what the alert was for.
These issues are sometimes expected from startup carmakers, but certainly not one with a history as long as Jeep's. And certainly not when other vehicles in the portfolio seem to operate without any problems.

2025 Jeep Wagoneer S prices start at $67,195 (including $1,995 in destination charges) for the entry-level Limited trim. With the optional Comfort package, Dark Appearance package, and silver paint (only the white paint is free of added charges), our test vehicle had a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $71,790. The Launch Edition has a starting price just slightly higher at $72,795.
It's priced competitively for the class, although the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9 are the value leaders in the class with a starting price closer to $60,000. The Audi Q8 e-tron, Rivian R1S, and Volvo EX90 start around the $75,000 mark, while the luxurious Mercedes-Benz EQE starts around $80,000, and the BMW iX rings in above $110,000.
With all of the aforementioned annoyances in mind, it's difficult for us to recommend the Wagoneer S on any level. It doesn't manage to distinguish itself from the competition, even in Jeep's off-road wheelhouse, and seems as though it was put into production without thorough testing and evaluation. At least until many of our complaints are addressed, we suggest checking out its rivals.
