2024 MINI Cooper Reviews, Pricing & Specs

Overview
MINI has expanded the availability of the manual transmission for the 2024 MINI Cooper lineup and brought back the Classic trim.
The MINI Cooper is a sporty subcompact car loaded with personality. There aren’t really any direct competitors since the Fiat 500 was discontinued, but it’s plausibly cross-shopped against everything from a Honda Civic Si to a Mazda MX-5 Miata.
What’s New for the 2024 MINI Cooper
Though the MINI Cooper lineup carries over generally unchanged for 2024, there are a few news items. MINI has expanded the number of models available with a manual transmission, helping maintain the brand’s appeal as a driver’s car. The base Classic Trim returns to the MINI Cooper Hardtop as well. Finally, the Untamed, Untold, and Resolute special editions remain available.
Design
For 2024, the MINI Cooper lineup continues to be available in two-door hatchback and four-door hatchback (Hardtop) models, or as a two-door convertible. Regardless of body style, the MINI is cute, cheerful, and colorful. It’s a small car that looks like nothing else on the road, by design—its uniqueness is the MINI Cooper’s main appeal. Bug-eyed lighting is both retro and modern, and big 18-inch alloy wheels over painted brake calipers give it a sporty look. The MINI is endlessly customizable, and special editions offer unique elements.
Powertrain
The 2024 MINI comes standard with a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-three engine rated for 134 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, while Cooper S models make 189 horsepower and 206 pound-feet from a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four. Transmission choices are a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, with availability of the manual increased for 2024. John Cooper Works models get a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four rated for 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The most-efficient configuration is the automatic 2-Door Hardtop model, EPA-rated for 29 mpg city, 38 mpg highway, and 32 mpg combined.
Interior
Though the MINI’s interior varies based on whether it’s a two- or four-door Hardtop or a convertible, all MINIs feature supportive seating and motorsport-inspired design elements, such as round vents and big gauges. There are tons of options, too, so it’s easy to customize your MINI just the way you want it. The 2024 MINI special editions, Untamed, Untold and Resolute, all feature unique interior styling elements. Fit and finish are great across the lineup.
Technology
The 2024 MINI Cooper lineup comes standard with an 8.8-inch touch-screen display and Apple CarPlay, though it’s worth noting that Android Auto isn’t available. Options like navigation and wireless smartphone charging are only available on certain trim levels. The system itself is based on BMW’s iDrive, but it’s a lot older-looking and -feeling than the infotainment you’ll find in nearly any competitor. It’s easy enough to use, just dated.
Safety
The 2024 MINI Cooper lineup hasn’t been evaluated for crashworthiness by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). MINI includes a reversing camera, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and rear parking sensors. Adaptive cruise control is available on some models, though it’s not available with the manual transmission.
Pricing
Pricing for the 2024 MINI Cooper lineup runs the gamut from reasonable to extreme. As of this writing, MINI lists pricing for the entry-level Cooper Hardtop 2-Door model at $25,800, while the Cooper Hardtop 4-Door is listed at $26,800. Most configurations end up somewhere in the $30,000 range, while the top-end John Cooper Works Convertible model starts at $48,500.

What owners say
I have owned 3 Minis from this generation. They are great, reliable, incredibly fun cars.
January 28, 2025Great performance and handling, providing features above its competitors in its class . One downside it’s more expensive to maintain than the other cars in its class.
