The 2023 Nissan Maxima is a five-passenger, full-size sedan. Unlike other more comfort-oriented sedans of its size, Nissan brands the Maxima as a four-door sports Car.
What’s New for the 2023 Nissan Maxima
The Maxima entered its eighth generation for the 2016 model year. It received a modest styling update in 2019. For 2023, the changes are minimal, as this will be the final year for the Maxima. Nissan has announced that it will be phased out in favor of expanded crossover models.
Design
The 2023 Nissan Maxima has the aggressive headlights and massive V-style grille that have defined the Nissan lineup since its redesign. The SV comes equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, while the SR and Platinum trims come with their own uniquely styled 19-inch wheels.
Powertrain
A 3.5-liter V6 engine powers the Maxima and is the only setup offered. It makes 300 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque, routing power to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT). EPA estimates for fuel economy in the Maxima are 20 mpg city, 30 highway, and 24 combined. Though there’s no difference in power output, the SR trim adds a sporty flair, backed by a sport-tuned suspension and a rear spoiler.
Interior
Trims for the Maxima are SV, SR, and Platinum. Standard equipment on the SV trim includes dual-zone automatic climate control, full leather upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, heated front seats, remote keyless entry, and remote start.
The SR trim adds a panoramic sunroof, paddle shifters, a heated steering wheel, and heated/ventilated front seats. The SR also boasts uniquely styled leather seats with a diamond-quilted pattern. The range-topping Platinum trim features semi-aniline premium leather upholstery, woodgrain interior accents, illuminated door sills, heated rear seats, and a power rear sunshade. The Maxima provides up to 14.3 cubic feet of cargo space.
Technology
The 2023 Nissan Maxima comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It’s not the most advanced system on the market, but it’s very easy to operate, and it includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also comes equipped with two USB ports and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The SR trim adds two rear-seat USB ports and an 11-speaker Bose stereo system.
Safety
Nissan equips the 2023 Maxima with a number of standard driver-assistance features, including forward collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, traffic-sign recognition, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. It also comes with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The SR trim adds a 360-degree parking camera system and front parking sensors.
Pricing
At the time of this writing, the 2023 Nissan Maxima has a base MSRP of $38,140 for the SV trim. The SR trim starts at $43,300, and the range-topping Platinum trim starts at $44,250. The Nissan Maxima is backed by a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
